DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL
REMOVE TAIL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
for 8AR-FTS:
for 3ZR-FAE:
REMOVE PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY
REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY
DISCONNECT REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY
Note
When removing the rear differential carrier assembly, do not damage the installation surface.
When removing the rear differential carrier assembly, the remaining oil may leak out.
Hold the rear differential carrier assembly so that it does not tilt or fall.
Make sure to support the rear differential carrier assembly while removing each bolt.
Using a transmission jack, support the rear differential carrier assembly.
Loosen the 7 bolts securing the rear differential carrier assembly.

Move |
|
Right side of the vehicle |
Remove the 2 bolts, slide the rear differential carrier assembly slightly toward the vehicle right side and disconnect the rear No. 2 differential support.
Temporarily install the rear differential support to the rear suspension member sub-assembly with the bolt.
Tech Tips
When removing the transmission coupling assembly, secure the rear differential carrier assembly in place.
REMOVE TRANSMISSION COUPLING ASSEMBLY
REMOVE TRANSMISSION COUPLING CONICAL SPRING WASHER
REMOVE TRANSMISSION COUPLING SHIM
REMOVE DIAPHRAGM OIL SEAL
| *a | Turn |
| *b | Hold |
Using SST, remove the diaphragm oil seal from the rear differential carrier assembly.
INSTALL DIAPHRAGM OIL SEAL
| *a | 6.5 to 7.5 mm (0.256 to 0.295 in.) |
Using SST and a hammer, tap a new diaphragm oil seal into the rear differential carrier according to the specification.
| Standard distance (from the edge of the differential carrier sub-assembly) |
|---|
| 6.5 to 7.5 mm (0.256 to 0.295 in.) |
Note
Tap the oil seal uniformly so that the oil seal is straight.
Do not tap the oil seal in too far.
INSTALL TRANSMISSION COUPLING SHIM
INSTALL TRANSMISSION COUPLING CONICAL SPRING WASHER
INSTALL TRANSMISSION COUPLING ASSEMBLY
CONNECT REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY
Note
When installing the rear differential carrier assembly, do not damage the installation surface.
When installing the rear differential carrier assembly, the remaining oil may leak out.
Hold the rear differential carrier assembly so that it does not tilt or fall.
Make sure to support the rear differential carrier assembly while installing each bolt.
Remove the bolt and disconnect the rear differential support from the rear suspension member sub-assembly.
Slide the rear differential carrier assembly slightly toward the vehicle right side and temporarily install the rear No. 2 differential support with the 2 new bolts labeled A.
