PROCEDURE
INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the compression spring.
Minimum length |
---|
41.5 mm (1.63 in.) |
If the length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.
Using a wire brush, remove any foreign matter from the gasket installation surface.
*1 | Exhaust Manifold |
*2 | Gasket |
*a | Wooden Block |
Using a plastic-faced hammer and wooden block, tap in a new gasket until its surface is flush with the exhaust manifold.
Note
Be sure to install the gasket so that it faces the correct direction.
Do not reuse the gasket.
Do not damage the gasket.
When connecting the front exhaust pipe assembly, do not push in the gasket with the front exhaust pipe assembly.
*1 | Exhaust Manifold |
*2 | Front Exhaust Pipe Assembly |
*3 | Gasket |
*a | Space between flanges: 8.5 mm (0.335 in.) |
Install the front exhaust pipe assembly with the 2 compression springs and 2 bolts.
Tech Tips
After installation, check that the space between the flanges of the exhaust manifold and front exhaust pipe assembly is consistent front-to-rear and left-to-right.
INSTALL CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
Install a new gasket to the front exhaust pipe assembly.
Connect the 3 exhaust pipe supports to install the center exhaust pipe assembly.
Install the 2 bolts.
INSTALL TAIL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the compression spring.
Minimum length |
---|
38.5 mm (1.52 in.) |
If the length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.
Using a wire brush, remove any foreign matter from the gasket installation surface.
*1 | Center Exhaust Pipe Assembly |
*2 | Gasket |
*a | Wooden Block |
Using a plastic-faced hammer and wooden block, tap in a new gasket until its surface is flush with the center exhaust pipe assembly.
Note
Be sure to install the gasket so that it faces the correct direction.
Do not reuse the gasket.
Do not damage the gasket.
When connecting the tail exhaust pipe assembly, do not push in the gasket with the tail exhaust pipe assembly.
Connect the 2 exhaust pipe supports to install the tail exhaust pipe assembly.
*1 | Center Exhaust Pipe Assembly |
*2 | Tail Exhaust Pipe Assembly |
*3 | Gasket |
*a | Space between flanges: 6.5 mm (0.256 in.) |
Install the tail exhaust pipe assembly with the 2 compression springs and 2 bolts.
Tech Tips
After installation, check that the space between the flanges of the center exhaust pipe assembly and tail exhaust pipe assembly is consistent front-to-rear and left-to-right.
CONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
First, twist the heated oxygen sensor approximately 4 times. Then temporarily install it to the center exhaust pipe assembly.
*a | Fulcrum Length |
Using SST, install the heated oxygen sensor to the center exhaust pipe sub-assembly.
Torque |
---|
Specified tightening torque |
44 N*m (449 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf) |
Note
Replace with a new part if it is dropped or if it receives a strong impact.
Tech Tips
Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.
When using SST (fulcrum length of 30 mm (1.18 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 180 mm (7.09 in.)): 37.7 N*m (384 kgf*cm, 28 ft.*lbf)
Pass the heated oxygen sensor connector through the floor panel and install the grommet.
Attach the harness clamp.
INSPECT FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
If gas is leaking, tighten the areas necessary to stop the leak. Replace damaged parts as necessary.
Tech Tips
If an exhaust gas leak has been repaired, perform an inspection following the repair.
