    Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing.

    Note

    After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    CAUTION:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

  4. REMOVE CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

    CAUTION:

    When storing the curtain shield airbag assembly, keep the airbag deployment side facing upward.

    Note

    When removing the curtain shield airbag assembly, have assistants hold it to prevent it from bending.


    1. Check that the engine switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, release the airbag connector lock and disconnect the airbag connector.

      Note

      When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    4. Using needle nose pliers, remove the 5 pins from the 5 clips (A).

      Note

      Do not damage the pins.

    5. Using 2 screwdrivers, disengage the 2 claws of each clip (A) and separate the 5 clips (A) from the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

      Tech Tips

      Separate the 5 clips (A) and curtain shield airbag assembly from the vehicle body as a unit.

    6. Disengage the 6 clips (B).

    7. While holding the curtain shield airbag assembly, remove the 6 bolts, disengage the 2 hooks and remove the curtain shield airbag assembly.

    8. Remove the 5 clips (A) and 2 spacers from the curtain shield airbag assembly.
