EXHAUST PIPE INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

  1. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE DAMPER

    1. Install the exhaust pipe damper to the tail exhaust pipe assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      19 N*m  { 194 kgf*cm, 14 ft.*lbf }
  2. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. B008J8V

      Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the compression spring.

      Minimum length
      41.5 mm (1.63 in.)

      If the length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.

    2. Using a wire brush, remove any foreign matter from the gasket installation surface.

      *1 Exhaust Manifold Converter Sub-assembly
      *2 Gasket
      *a Wooden Block

      Using a plastic-faced hammer and wooden block, tap in a new gasket until its surface is flush with the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly.

      Note

      • Be sure to install the gasket so that it faces the correct direction.

      • Do not reuse the gasket.

      • Do not damage the gasket.

      • When connecting the front exhaust pipe sub-assembly, do not push in the gasket with the front exhaust pipe sub-assembly.

    4. B008H78C02
      *1 Exhaust Manifold Converter Sub-assembly
      *2 Front Exhaust Pipe Sub-assembly
      *3 Gasket
      *a Space between flanges: 8.5 mm (0.335 in.)

      Install the front exhaust pipe sub-assembly with the 2 compression springs and 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      After installation, check that the space between the flanges of the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly and front exhaust pipe sub-assembly is consistent front-to-rear and left-to-right.

  5. INSTALL FRONT NO. 2 EXHAUST PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Install a new gasket to the front exhaust pipe sub-assembly.

    2. Install the front No. 2 exhaust pipe sub-assembly with 2 new nuts and the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }
    3. Attach the wire harness clamp.

    4. w/ GPF:

      Connect the air fuel ratio sensor connector.

    5. w/o GPF:

      Connect the heated oxygen sensor connector.

  6. INSTALL CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY

    1. Install a new gasket to the front No. 2 exhaust pipe sub-assembly.

    2. Connect the 4 exhaust pipe supports to install the center exhaust pipe assembly.

    3. Install the center exhaust pipe assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }
  7. INSTALL TAIL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY

    1. B008J8V

      Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the compression spring.

      Minimum length
      38.5 mm (1.52 in.)

      If the length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.

    2. Using a wire brush, remove any foreign matter from the gasket installation surface.

    3. B008I9LC36
      *1 Center Exhaust Pipe Assembly
      *2 Gasket
      *a Wooden Block

      Using a plastic-faced hammer and wooden block, tap in a new gasket until its surface is flush with the center exhaust pipe assembly.

      Note

      • Be sure to install the gasket so that it faces the correct direction.

      • Do not reuse the gasket.

      • Do not damage the gasket.

      • When connecting the tail exhaust pipe assembly, do not push in the gasket with the tail exhaust pipe assembly.

    4. Connect the 3 exhaust pipe supports to install the tail exhaust pipe assembly.

    5. B008GSWC02
      *1 Center Exhaust Pipe Assembly
      *2 Tail Exhaust Pipe Assembly
      *3 Gasket
      *a Space between flanges: 6.5 mm (0.256 in.)

      Install the tail exhaust pipe assembly with the 2 compression springs and 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      After installation, check that the space between the flanges of the center exhaust pipe assembly and tail exhaust pipe assembly is consistent front-to-rear and left-to-right.

  8. INSPECT FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK

    If gas is leaking, tighten the areas necessary to stop the leak. Replace damaged parts as necessary.

    Tech Tips

    If an exhaust gas leak has been repaired, perform an inspection following the repair.
