OIL PUMP (w/ Dual VVT-i) REMOVAL


  1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE

  2. PRECAUTION

    Note

    After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Click here.

  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

  4. DRAIN ENGINE OIL


    1. Remove the oil filler cap.

    2. Remove the oil drain plug and drain the engine oil from the oil pan sub-assembly.

      Note

      Collect the oil in a disposable oil container.

    3. Clean the oil pan drain plug and install it with a new gasket.

      Torque:
      38 N*m  { 382 kgf*cm, 28 ft.*lbf }
  5. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

    CAUTION:

    Do not remove the radiator reservoir cap sub-assembly while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    Tech Tips

    Collect the engine coolant in a container and dispose of it according to local regulations.


    1. Loosen the radiator drain cock plug and drain the engine coolant.

    2. Remove the radiator reservoir cap sub-assembly.

    3. Loosen the cylinder block water drain cock plug and drain the engine coolant from the engine.

  6. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (for Automatic Transmission)

  7. REMOVE MANUAL TRANSMISSION (for Manual Transmission)

  8. DISCONNECT NO. 4 RADIATOR HOSE


    1. Remove the clamp, and disconnect the radiator hose inlet from the engine.

  9. DISCONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE


    1. Remove the clamp, and disconnect the radiator hose outlet from the engine.

  10. REMOVE AIR PRESSURE SENSOR

      Disconnect the connector.

    2. Disconnect the vacuum hose and clamp.

    3. Detach the wire harness clamp

    4. Remove the 2 bolts and air pressure sensor together with the bracket.

      Remove the bolt and air pressure sensor.

  11. DISCONNECT FUEL VAPOR FEED HOSE ASSEMBLY

      Disconnect the fuel vapor feed hose from the VSV.

  12. DISCONNECT UNION TO CONNECTOR TUBE HOSE


    1. Disconnect the union to connector tube hose from the intake manifold.

  13. DISCONNECT VANE PUMP ASSEMBLY

      Disconnect the PS fluid pressure switch connector.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the pump from the engine.

    3. Support the vane pump securely.

  14. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE


    1. Disconnect the wire harness support of the ECM.

    2. Disconnect the connectors of the ECM.

    3. Disconnect the clamps of the engine wire and earth cable.

    4. Disconnect the +B terminal of the starter and connector from the generator.

      Remove the nut and disconnect the cable from the engine room J/B.

  15. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD

  16. REMOVE FAN PULLEY


    1. Remove the 4 nuts, fan pulley and fan spacer.

  17. REMOVE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS PIPE


    1. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts, water by-pass pipe and gasket.

  18. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY

      Disconnect the generator connector.

    2. Remove the terminal cap.

    3. Remove the nut and disconnect the wire harness from terminal B.

    4. Remove the 3 bolts and generator assembly.

  19. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

  20. REMOVE NO. 1 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Remove the bolt, pulley plate, collar, and idler pulley sub-assembly No.1.

  21. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 2 bolts and belt tensioner.

  22. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the bolts and ignition coil assembly.

  23. REMOVE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

      Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

    2. Remove the bolt and the camshaft position sensor.

  24. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY


    1. for Intake Side:


      1. Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.

        Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve assembly from the cylinder head sub-assembly.

      3. Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.

    2. for Exhaust Side:


      1. Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.

        Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve assembly from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

      3. Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.

  25. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Slide the clip and disconnect the PCV hose from the PCV valve sub-assembly.

      Remove the 21 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 plate washers, 2 seal washers and cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

    3. Remove the gasket from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

    4. Remove the No. 1 camshaft bearing cap oil hole gasket from the cylinder head cover spacer.

  26. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY

      Using SST, hold the crankshaft pulley and loosen the crankshaft pulley set bolt.

    2. Screw the crankshaft pulley set bolt into the crankshaft by 2 or 3 threads.

      Tech Tips

      Apply lubricant to the threads and end of SST.

  27. REMOVE NO. 2 OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the oil pan drain plug and gasket.

      Remove the 18 bolts and 2 nuts.

    3. Insert the blade of an oil pan seal cutter between the oil pan sub-assembly and No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly. Cut through the applied sealer and remove the No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the oil pan sub-assembly and No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly.

  28. REMOVE OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 16 bolts and 2 nuts.

      Using a screwdriver wrapped in protective tape, remove the oil pan sub-assembly by prying between the oil pan sub-assembly and cylinder block sub-assembly as shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder block sub-assembly and oil pan sub-assembly.

      Tech Tips

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    3. Remove the gasket.

  29. REMOVE WATER INLET

  30. REMOVE THERMOSTAT

  31. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN OR BELT COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Using a screwdriver wrapped in protective tape, remove the timing chain or belt cover sub-assembly by prying the points in the illustration.

      Note

      Do not damage the surrounding parts.

      Tech Tips

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

      Remove the 3 O-rings from the timing chain or belt cover sub-assembly.

  32. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN CASE OIL SEAL

      Using a screwdriver wrapped in protective tape, pry out the timing chain case oil seal from the timing chain or belt cover sub-assembly.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the timing chain or belt cover sub-assembly.

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  33. REMOVE OIL PUMP RELIEF VALVE

      Using a 27 mm socket wrench, remove the oil pump relief valve plug and gasket.

    2. Remove the oil pump relief valve spring and oil pump relief valve from the timing chain or belt cover sub-assembly.
