FRONT AXLE HUB(for 2WD) REMOVAL

The necessary procedures (adjustment, calibration, initialization or registration) that must be performed after parts are removed, installed or replaced during the front axle hub removal/installation are shown below.

  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL

  2. DISCONNECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR LH (w/ ABS)

      Remove the bolt and harness clamp from the front absorber bracket.

    2. Remove the bolt and harness clamp from the front lower arm bracket.

    3. B0069A0

      Remove the bolt and harness clamp from the steering knuckle LH.

    4. Remove the bolt and front speed sensor LH.

      Note

      Keep the sensor tip and sensor installation hole free from foreign matter.

  3. DISCONNECT FRONT FLEXIBLE HOSE

  4. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH

  5. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING LH

  6. REMOVE FRONT DISC

    Click here

  7. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

    Click here

  8. DISCONNECT FRONT LOWER NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH

      Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the front lower No. 1 suspension arm assembly LH from the steering knuckle LH.

  9. DISCONNECT FRONT UPPER SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH

      Support the front axle hub assembly with a jack.

    2. Remove the clip and nut.

      *a Turn
      *b Hold

      Using SST, disconnect the steering knuckle LH from the front upper suspension arm assembly LH.

  10. REMOVE KNUCKLE GREASE RETAINER CAP LH


    1. Secure the front axle hub sub-assembly LH between aluminum plates in a vise.

      Using a screwdriver and hammer, tap out the knuckle grease retainer cap LH.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the steering knuckle LH.

  11. REMOVE FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT LH

      Using a chisel and hammer, loosen the staked part of the front axle shaft nut LH.

      Note


      • Completely loosen the staked part of the front axle shaft nut LH when removing it.

      • Do not damage the front axle hub sub-assembly LH.

    2. A01LD05

      Using a 36 mm socket wrench, remove the front axle shaft nut LH.

  12. REMOVE FRONT SKID CONTROL ROTOR (w/ ABS)

      Remove the front skid control rotor.

      Note

      Take care not to scratch the serration of the front skid control rotor.

  13. REMOVE FRONT INNER WHEEL BEARING SPACER LH (w/o ABS)

      Remove the front inner wheel bearing spacer LH.

  14. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

      *a Turn
      *b Hold

      Using SST, remove the 3 front axle hub bolts.

      Install SST to the front axle hub assembly LH as shown in the illustration.

      Using SST and a press, remove the front axle hub assembly LH and front axle hub inner bearing (inner race) from the steering knuckle LH.

    4. Remove the 3 bolts and the dust cover.

  15. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB HOLE SNAP RING LH

      Using a snap ring pliers, remove the front axle hub hole snap ring from the steering knuckle LH.

  16. REMOVE FRONT INNER AXLE HUB BEARING LH

      Using SST, remove the front inner axle hub bearing LH (outer side inner race) from the front axle hub sub-assembly LH.

    2. Remove the front inner axle hub bearing LH (inner side inner race) from the steering knuckle LH.

      Using SST and a hammer, tap out the front inner axle hub bearing LH (outer race) from the steering knuckle LH.

  17. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB OIL SEAL LH


    1. Using a screwdriver, pry out the front axle hub oil seal LH from the front axle hub sub-assembly LH.
