CAUTION:
Perform each part replacement carefully, as mistakes could affect the brake system performance and lead to driving problems. When replacing a part, replace with the same part or equivalent.
Note
As these procedures may affect the SRS airbags, it is necessary to read the SRS airbag precautions Click here.
While the battery is connected, even if the engine switch is off, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed with the door courtesy switch on. Therefore during servicing of the brake system components, do not operate the brake pedal and open/close the doors while the battery is connected.
Do not operate the electric parking brake switch with the battery connected, unless otherwise instructed in the procedures.
Make sure that the electric parking brake AUTO switch is off. This is necessary to prevent the system from activating when the shift lever is moved.
Before disconnecting the battery cable or other connectors, prevent DTCs from being output by following the procedures below.
Turn the power switch off.
Do not operate the parking brake.
Wait 30 seconds or more.
After replacing or inspecting the parking brake shoe or rear disc, perform parking brake bedding Click here.
When servicing the brake system, make sure its parts and surrounding parts are clean.
RELEASE PARKING BRAKE
With the power switch on (IG), operate the electric parking brake switch to release the parking brake. Then turn the power switch off.
Tech Tips
If the parking brake cannot be released, use the luggage compartment's parking brake release tool to manually release the parking brake (refer to the Owner's Manual: Steps to take in an emergency).
PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING ON VEHICLE
If the vehicle needs to be tilted after stopping the vehicle on a level surface, press the electric parking brake switch twice, as the braking force may be insufficient.
Tech Tips
The electric parking brake determines how much braking force to apply using the yaw rate sensor value for the slope of the road.
Press the electric parking brake twice to apply the parking brake with the maximum braking force.
