INSPECTION PROCEDURE

CAUTION:

  • Before inspecting the high-voltage system, take safety precautions to prevent electrical shocks, such as wearing insulated gloves and removing the service plug grip. After removing the service plug grip, put it in your pocket to prevent other technicians from accidentally reconnecting it while you are working on the high-voltage system.

  • After removing the service plug grip, wait for at least 10 minutes before touching any of the high-voltage connectors or terminals. After waiting for 10 minutes, check the voltage at the terminals in the inspection point in the inverter with converter assembly. The voltage should be 0 V before beginning work Click here.

    Tech Tips

At least 10 minutes is required to discharge the high-voltage capacitor inside the inverter with converter assembly.

Note

After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notices before proceeding with work Click here.

Tech Tips

After the repair, clear the DTCs and perform the following procedure to check that DTCs are not output.

  1. Turn the power switch on (IG) and wait for 10 seconds or more.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.

    4. Read output DTCs.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY VOLTAGE SENSOR - HYBRID BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY)

    Note

Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.

      Note

After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair manual because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the upper hybrid battery cover sub-assembly Click here.

    3. A01FTM4E01

Disconnect the z22 battery current sensor connector from the hybrid battery junction block assembly.

    4. Disconnect the z21 battery voltage sensor connector.

Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the tables below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      z21-5 (IB) - z22-3 (IB) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      z21-12 (GIB) - z22-2 (GIB) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      z21-6 (VIB) - z22-1 (VIB) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
z21-5 (IB) or z22-3 (IB) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
z21-12 (GIB) or z22-2 (GIB) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
z21-6 (VIB) or z22-1 (VIB) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      Note

When taking a measurement with a tester, do not apply excessive force to the tester probe to avoid damaging the holder.

      Tech Tips

Because the battery harness is not available as a supply part, if the harness cannot be repaired, replace the HV battery.

    6. Reconnect the z21 battery voltage sensor connector.

    7. Reconnect the z22 battery current sensor connector to the hybrid battery junction block assembly.

    8. Install the upper hybrid battery cover sub-assembly.
