DESCRIPTION

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit consists of the center airbag sensor assembly and passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator.

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator indicates the operation condition of the instrument panel passenger airbag, lower No. 2 instrument panel airbag assembly, front seat airbag RH and front seat outer belt assembly RH.

DTC B1660/43 is stored when a malfunction is detected in the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit.

One of the following conditions is met:


  • The center airbag sensor assembly detects an open circuit signal, short circuit to ground signal or short circuit to B+ signal in the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit for 2 seconds.

  • A passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator malfunction.

  • A center airbag sensor assembly malfunction.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note


  • After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work Click here.

  • When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal while performing repairs, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION


    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    2. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

  2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS


    1. Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and multi-media module receiver assembly.

      OK
      The connectors are properly connected.

  3. CHECK CONNECTORS


    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and multi-media module receiver assembly.

  4. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR

      Connect the connector to the multi-media module receiver assembly.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    4. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      OK
      The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on.

  5. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY

      Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor assembly.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    4. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    5. Turn the engine switch off.

    6. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    7. Check for DTCs Click here.

      OK
      DTC B1660/43 is not output.

  6. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE


    1. Disconnect the connector from the multi-media module receiver assembly.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      N68-34 (ARON) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      N68-33 (AIR) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    5. Turn the engine switch off.

    6. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    7. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.

      Note

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    9. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

    10. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    4. Turn the engine switch off.

    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.

      Note

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Connect the connector to the multi-media module receiver assembly.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly.

    5. Using a service wire, connect terminal 23 (PAON) and body ground.

    6. Using a service wire, connect terminal 17 (P-AB) and body ground.

    7. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    8. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    9. Check the indicator according to the table below.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    5. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    6. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    7. Turn the engine switch off.

    8. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    9. Check for DTCs Click here.
