DESCRIPTION

The seat position airbag sensor circuit consists of the center airbag sensor assembly and seat position airbag sensor.

DTC B1653/35 is stored when a malfunction is detected in the seat position airbag sensor circuit.

DTC Code Detection Condition Trouble Area
B1653/35 (for LHD)

One of the following conditions is met:


  • The center airbag sensor assembly detects a line short circuit signal, open circuit signal, short circuit to ground signal or short circuit to B+ signal in the seat position airbag sensor circuit for 2 seconds.

  • A seat position airbag sensor malfunction.

  • A center airbag sensor assembly malfunction.


  • No. 2 floor wire

  • Front seat inner belt assembly LH

  • Seat position airbag sensor

  • Center airbag sensor assembly

B1653/35 (for RHD)

One of the following conditions is met:


  • The center airbag sensor assembly detects a line short circuit signal, open circuit signal, short circuit to ground signal or short circuit to B+ signal in the seat position airbag sensor circuit for 2 seconds.

  • A seat position airbag sensor malfunction.

  • A center airbag sensor assembly malfunction.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note


  • After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work Click here.

  • When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal while performing repairs, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK VEHICLE TYPE


    1. Check vehicle type.

  2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS


    1. Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and seat position airbag sensor.

      OK
      The connectors are properly connected.

  3. CHECK CONNECTORS


    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and seat position airbag sensor.

      Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and seat position airbag sensor side) are not damaged Click here.

  4. CHECK SEAT POSITION AIRBAG SENSOR CIRCUIT


    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      2(LSP+) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    4. Turn the engine switch off.

    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 24 (LSP-) and 16 (LSP+) of connector B.

      Note

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly and seat position airbag sensor.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    6. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

  6. CHECK SEAT POSITION AIRBAG SENSOR


    1. Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Replace the seat position airbag sensor Click here.

      Tech Tips

      Perform the inspection using parts from a normal vehicle if possible.

  8. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE


    1. Disconnect the No. 2 floor wire connector from the front seat inner belt assembly LH.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    5. Turn the engine switch off.

    6. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    7. Using a service wire, connect terminals 16 (LSP+) and 24 (LSP-) of connector B.

      Note

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    9. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

    10. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    1. Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and seat position airbag sensor.

  10. CHECK CONNECTORS


    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and seat position airbag sensor.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    4. Turn the engine switch off.

    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 17 (RSP-) and 9 (RSP+) of connector B.

      Note

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
