FRONT AXLE HUB BOLT REPLACEMENT

Note

When the brake pedal is first depressed after replacing the brake pads or pushing back the disc brake piston, DTC C1341, C1342, C1343 and/or C1344 may be stored. As there is no malfunction, clear the DTC(s).

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.


  1. PRECAUTION (w/ Air Suspension)

  2. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL

  3. SEPARATE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 2 bolts and separate the front disc brake caliper assembly.

      Note

      Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.

  4. REMOVE FRONT DISC

      Remove the front disc.

      Tech Tips

      Put matchmarks on the disc and the axle hub.

  5. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB BOLT

      Position the front axle hub bolt to be removed as shown in the illustration.

      *1 Nut

      Temporarily install 2 nuts to the front axle hub bolt as shown in the illustration.

      Recommended service nut
      Thread diameter: 12.0 mm (0.472 in.)
      Thread pitch: 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.)

      Note

      Install the nuts to prevent damage to the front axle hub bolts.

    3. Using SST and a brass bar or an equivalent tool to hold the front axle hub, remove the front axle hub bolt.

  6. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB BOLT

      Position a new front axle hub bolt to be installed as shown in the illustration.

      *1 Nut
      *2 Washer

      Temporarily install the new front axle hub bolt to the front axle hub.

    3. Install a washer and nut to the new front axle hub bolt as shown in the illustration.

      Recommended service nut
      Thread diameter: 12.0 mm (0.472 in.)
      Thread pitch: 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.)

      Tech Tips

      The thickness of the washer is preferably 5 mm (0.197 in.) or more.

    4. Using a brass bar or an equivalent tool to hold the front axle hub, install the front axle hub bolt by tightening the nut.

      Note


      • Install the nuts to prevent damage to the front axle hub bolts.

      • Do not damage the threads of the front axle hub bolts.

    5. Remove the 3 nuts and washer from the 3 front axle hub bolts.

  7. INSTALL FRONT DISC

      Align the matchmarks and install the front disc.

      Note

      When replacing the disc with a new one, select the installation position where the front disc has minimal runout.

  8. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY

      Install the front disc brake caliper assembly to the steering knuckle with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      104 N*m  { 1061 kgf*cm, 77 ft.*lbf }
  9. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL

    Torque:
    103 N*m  { 1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf }
