STEERING GEAR REMOVAL

Note


  • Be sure to align the front wheels straight ahead when removing and installing the steering gear assembly.

  • When disconnecting the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the pinion shaft of the steering gear assembly, be sure to place matchmarks before servicing.


  1. PRECAUTION (w/ Air Suspension)

  2. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  3. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS

  4. SECURE STEERING WHEEL

      Secure the steering wheel with the seat belt in order to prevent it from rotating.

      Tech Tips

      This operation is necessary to prevent damage to the spiral cable.

  5. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

      Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering link assembly.

      Note

      Do not separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering link assembly.

    2. Remove the bolt.

    3. Separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering link assembly.

  6. SEPARATE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH

      Remove the cotter pin and nut.

    2. A01NGHQE01

      Install SST to the tie rod end.

      Note

      Make sure that the upper ends of the tie rod end and SST are aligned.

    3. Using SST, separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

      *1 Tie the string without allowing for any slack. *2 Place the wrench here.

      Note


      • When securing SST to the steering knuckle, be sure to tighten SST using a string to prevent it from falling.


      • Install SST so that A and B are parallel.


      • Be sure to place a wrench on the part indicated in the illustration.


      • Do not damage the front disc brake dust cover.


      • Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.


      • Do not damage the steering knuckle.

  7. SEPARATE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  8. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE

  9. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 STABILIZER BRACKET LH

      Remove the 2 bolts and front No. 1 stabilizer bracket LH from the front frame assembly.

  10. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 STABILIZER BRACKET RH

    Tech Tips

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  11. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER BAR (w/o Active Stabilizer System)


    1. Remove the front stabilizer bar from the front frame assembly.

  12. REMOVE FRONT ACTIVE STABILIZER CONTROL ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (w/ Active Stabilizer System)


    1. Remove the front active stabilizer control actuator assembly from the front frame assembly.

      Note


      • Take care not to damage the front active stabilizer control actuator assembly wire harness.

      • Avoid any impact to the front active stabilizer control actuator assembly.

      • Do not drop the active stabilizer control actuator assembly. If it is dropped, replace it with a new one.

  13. REMOVE STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and steering link assembly.

      Note

      Because the nut has its own stopper, do not turn the nut. Loosen the bolt with the nut secured.

  14. REMOVE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH

      Put matchmarks on the tie rod assembly LH and the steering rack end sub-assembly.

    2. Loosen the lock nut, and remove the tie rod assembly LH and lock nut.

  15. REMOVE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH
