Note
When the brake pedal is first depressed after replacing the brake pads or pushing back the disc brake piston, DTC C1341, C1342, C1343 and/or C1344 may be stored. As there is no malfunction, clear the DTC(s).

The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

REMOVE REAR WHEEL
SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
Remove the 2 bolts, and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly.
Note
Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.
REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG
REMOVE REAR DISC

Put matchmarks on the rear disc and the axle hub.
Release the parking brake and remove the rear disc.
Tech Tips
If the disc can not be removed easily, use a screwdriver to turn the shoe adjuster as shown in the illustration in order to contract the parking brake shoes.
REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING
Remove the 2 No. 1 parking brake shoe return tension springs.
SEPARATE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY
Remove the No. 1 parking brake shoe hold down spring cup and parking brake shoe hold down spring to separate the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly from the backing plate.
REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER STRUT
Remove the parking brake shoe lever strut and parking brake shoe strut compression spring.
SEPARATE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY
Remove the No. 1 parking brake shoe hold down spring cup and parking brake shoe hold down spring to separate the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly from the backing plate.
REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET
Remove the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.
REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY
Separate the No. 2 parking brake shoe return tension spring to remove the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly.
REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING
Remove the No. 2 parking brake shoe return tension spring from the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly.
REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY WITH PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER
Using needle-nose pliers, separate the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the parking brake shoe lever as shown in the illustration.
Note
Be careful not to damage the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.
REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER
Remove the C-washer, shim and parking brake shoe lever from the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly as shown in the illustration.
REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE GUIDE PLATE SET BOLT
Remove the parking brake shoe guide plate set bolt and parking brake shoe guide plate.
REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING PIN
Remove the parking brake shoe hold down spring pin (for front side).
Remove the parking brake shoe hold down spring pin (for rear side).
