INSPECT STEERING EFFORT (TORQUE)
CAUTION:
Some of these service operations may affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing Click here.
Stop the vehicle on a level, paved surface and align the wheels straight ahead.
Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
Note
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.
Remove the steering wheel pad Click here.
Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
Note
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.
Using a torque wrench, check that the steering wheel set nut is properly tightened.
Turn the engine switch on (IG) so that the power steering is available.
Turn the steering wheel 90 degrees to the right and check the steering effort (torque) while continuing to turn it further in the same direction.
Align the front wheels facing straight ahead.
Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

Install the steering wheel pad Click here.
Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
Note
Make sure that the cable has been disconnected from the battery terminal for at least 2 seconds before reconnecting the cable.
Connect the cable to negative (-) battery terminal with the front wheels facing straight ahead.

Clear the DTCs Click here.
Inspect the airbag warning light Click here.
INSPECT STEERING WHEEL FREE PLAY
Stop the vehicle and position the front wheels straight ahead.
Turn the engine switch on (IG) so that the power steering is available.
Gently turn the steering wheel right and left, and check steering wheel free play.
