DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Drive vehicle at high speed or with heavy load (Use freeze frame data from time malfunction occurred as reference while driving) The fuel temperature is 110°C (230°F) or higher for the specified time (1 trip detection logic).
  • Fuel cooler (Problem cooling fuel)

  • Fuel lines or fuel filter clogged

  • After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration Click here and initialization Click here.

  • After replacing the fuel supply pump assembly, the ECM needs initialization Click here.

  • After replacing an injector assembly, the ECM needs registration Click here.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0168)


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the tester on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.

    4. Read the DTCs.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
      P0168 is output A
      P0168 and other DTCs are output B

      Tech Tips

      If DTCs other than P0168 are output, perform troubleshooting for those codes first.

  2. CHECK FUEL SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY


    1. Perform a visual inspection of the exterior of the fuel supply pump assembly and check that there are no fuel leaks.

      OK
      There are no fuel leaks or stains.

  3. CHECK FUEL SYSTEM


    1. Check if dirt is clogging the fuel cooler cooling fins. Clean the fins if they are clogged with dirt.

      Tech Tips

      If the fuel cooler cooling fins are not clogged with dirt, replace the fuel filter.

  7. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the tester on.

    4. Start the engine.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Fuel Temperature.

    6. Drive the vehicle in a city area and check that the value of Fuel Temperature does not exceed 110°C (230°F).
