DESCRIPTION

To detect atmospheric pressure, the built-in atmospheric pressure sensor in the ECM is used for the common rail system. Following the changes in the atmospheric pressure, the ECM corrects the injection volume, timing and duration, and adjusts the common rail internal fuel pressure in order to optimize engine combustion.

Table 1. P2226
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Ignition switch ON for 1 second Atmospheric pressure sensor voltage is 1.4 V or less, or 4.0 V or more for 0.5 seconds (1 trip detection logic). ECM
Table 2. P2228
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Ignition switch ON for 1 second Atmospheric pressure sensor voltage is 1.4 V or less for 0.5 seconds (1 trip detection logic). ECM
Table 3. P2229
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Ignition switch ON for 1 second Atmospheric pressure sensor voltage is 4.0 V or more for 0.5 seconds (1 trip detection logic). ECM

DTC No. Data List
P2226
  • Atmosphere Pressure

  • MAP

P2228
P2229
Tip:
  • When the ignition switch is ON, the intake air pipe pressure is approximately equal to atmospheric pressure.

  • Under standard atmospheric pressure conditions, the output of the atmospheric pressure sensor is 101 kPa. For every 100 m increase in altitude, pressure drops by 1 kPa. Varies by weather (high atmospheric pressure, low atmospheric pressure).

  • If DTC P2226, P2228 and/or P2229 is stored, the following symptoms may appear:

    • Misfire

    • Combustion noise

    • Black smoke

    • White smoke

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note:

After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration (Click here) and initialization (Click here).

Tip:

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. Click here

CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P2226, P2228 OR P2229)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / DTC.

    4. Read the DTCs.

      Table 5. Result
      Result Proceed to
      P2226, P2228 or P2229 is output A
P2226, P2228 or P2229 and other DTCs are output B
      Tip:

If any DTCs other than P2226, P2228 and P2229 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    REPLACE ECM

    1. Replace the ECM (Click here).

  3. Click here

CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Clear the DTCs (Click here).

    3. Turn the ignition switch off.

    4. Turn the ignition switch off and leave the vehicle for 15 seconds.

    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON for 1 second.

    6. Confirm that the DTC is not output again.

      Tip:

Perform the following procedure using the tester to determine whether or not the DTC judgment has been carried out.

      1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

      2. Input DTC P2226, P2228 and/or P2229.

      3. Check that STATUS is NORMAL. If STATUS is INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN, idle the engine.
