SFI SYSTEM MIL Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is used to indicate vehicle malfunctions detected by the ECM.

The MIL operation can be checked visually:

When the ignition switch is turned ON, the MIL should be illuminated and should then turn off after the engine is started. If the MIL remains illuminated or is not illuminated, conduct the following troubleshooting procedure using the GTS.

Note


  • Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following procedure.

  • When replacing the combination meter assembly, always replace it with a new one. If a combination meter assembly which was installed to another vehicle is used, the information stored in it will not match the information from the vehicle and a DTC may be stored.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK THAT MIL IS ILLUMINATED


    1. Perform troubleshooting in accordance with the table below.

  2. READ VALUE USING GTS


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Check the communication between the and GTS and ECM.

      Tech Tips

      The Data List item "Engine" can be checked.

  3. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: System Select / Health Check.

    5. Check the DTCs.

  4. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR)


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test / Check Engine Indicator.


      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test
      Tester Display
      Check Engine Indicator

    5. Check the status of the MIL while performing the Active Test.
