Although the ECM is not requesting fuel pump (for high pressure side) to open the spill control valve, fuel pressure increases 3 MPa (30.6 kgf/cm2, 435 psi) from target pressure for about 10 seconds (1 trip detection logic)

  • Fuel pump (for high pressure side)

  • Fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly (fuel pressure sensor)

  • Fuel relief valve assembly

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

If the fuel pressure increases despite a decrease request signal being sent to the fuel pump (for high pressure) by the ECM, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store this DTC.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN


  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.

  3. Record the Freeze Frame Data.

  4. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).

  5. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  6. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.

  7. Start the engine.

  8. Based on engine speed, engine load and other freeze frame data stored in the ECM, reproduce the conditions present when the DTC was stored.

  9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

  10. Read the pending DTCs.

    Tech Tips


    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

  11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

  12. Input the DTC: P0088.

  13. Check the DTC judgment result.

    GTS Display Description

    • DTC judgment completed

    • System normal
    ABNORMAL

    • DTC judgment completed

    • System abnormal
    INCOMPLETE

    • DTC judgment not completed

    • Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions
    N/A

    • Unable to perform DTC judgment

    • Number of DTCs which do not fulfill DTC preconditions has reached ECU memory limit

    Tech Tips


    • If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0088)


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

    4. Read the DTCs.


      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes
      Result
      Result Proceed to
      DTC P0088 is output A
      DTC P0088 and other DTCs are output B

      Tech Tips

      If any DTCs other than P0088 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  2. CHECK FUEL DELIVERY PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY (FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR)


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Start the engine and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / All Data / Fuel Press.


      Powertrain > Engine > Data List
      Tester Display
      Fuel Press

    4. Check that the fuel pressure fluctuates when the engine is raced.

      OK
      Fuel pressure fluctuates.

  3. REPLACE FUEL PUMP (FOR HIGH PRESSURE SIDE)


    1. Replace the fuel pump (for high pressure side).

  4. CHECK IF DTC OUTPUT RECURS (SEE IF DTC P0088 IS OUTPUT AGAIN)


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Clear the DTCs.


      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs

    5. Turn the engine switch off and wait at for least 30 seconds.

    6. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in the Confirmation Driving Pattern.

    7. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

    8. Read the DTCs.

  5. INSPECT FUEL RELIEF VALVE ASSEMBLY


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      Fuel Press

    5. Start the engine.

    6. Check the fuel pressure.
