Either condition is met (3 trip detection logic):


  • EGR valve circuit overcurrent for 0.22 seconds.

  • EGR valve sensor circuit over temperature for 0.22 seconds.

  • Battery short in EGR valve circuit for 0.22 seconds.


  • Open or short in EGR valve circuit

  • EGR valve assembly

  • Cooling fan system

  • ECM

Comes on DTC stored
P0489 Exhaust Gas Recirculation "A" Control Circuit Low

Ground short in EGR valve circuit for 0.22 seconds.

(3 trip detection logic)


  • Open or short in EGR valve circuit

  • EGR valve assembly

  • ECM

Battery short in EGR valve circuit for 0.22 seconds.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY


    1. Inspect the EGR valve assembly.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY - ECM)


    1. Disconnect the EGR valve assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B131-2 (M+) - B112-48 (EGM+) Always Below 1 Ω
      B131-1 (M-) - B112-18 (EGM-) Always Below 1 Ω
      B131-2 (M+) or B112-48 (EGM+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      B131-1 (M-) or B112-18 (EGM-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  3. REPLACE ECM

    2. Perform the EGR learning value reset.

  6. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Clear the DTCs.


      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Clear DTCs
    4. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 60 seconds or more [A].

    5. Perform road test [B].

    6. Repeat [A] and [B] for the number of trips detected.

    7. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.

    8. Enter the following menus: Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.


      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Trouble Codes
    9. Confirm that the DTC is not output again.
