PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY CABLE
Note
When disconnecting the battery negative (-) cable, initialize the following system(s) after the cable is reconnected:
| System | See Procedure |
|---|---|
| Stop and Start System | |
| Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System | |
| Power Door Lock Control System (for Hatchback, Wagon) |
IGNITION SWITCH EXPRESSIONS
The type of ignition switch used on this model differs depending on the specifications of the vehicle. The expressions listed in the table below are used in this section.
| Expression | Ignition Switch (Position) | Engine Switch (Condition) |
|---|---|---|
| Ignition Switch off | LOCK | Off (Lock) |
| Ignition Switch ACC | ACC | On (ACC) |
| Ignition Switch ON | ON | On (IG) |
| Engine start | START | On (Start) |
PRECAUTION REGARDING ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
When racing the engine, make sure that the gear is in neutral.
PRECAUTION REGARDING PARTS REMOVAL
Before removing the clutch actuator assembly or transaxle assembly from the vehicle, perform the Active Test to set the clutch actuator assembly to the "Clamp" position.
Note
If the actuator is not set to the "Clamp" position, the clutch fluid may be sprayed out.
Tech Tips
If the clutch actuator assembly cannot be set to the "Clamp" position due to a malfunction (sticking, etc.), then the clutch fluid pressure should be released from the bleeder plug to prevent the fluid from spraying.
PRECAUTION REGARDING PARTS INSTALLATION
Before installing the clutch actuator assembly or transaxle assembly onto the vehicle, perform the Active Test to set the clutch actuator assembly to the "Clamp" position.
If clutch fluid line parts are installed, bleed the air from the lines before performing initialization.
When installing parts related to the multi-mode manual transaxle system, perform the initialization and learning and synchronization position calibration procedures. In addition, the required operations differ according to the parts to be installed. Proceed with the operation in the order shown in the table below.
| Part Installed | Operation Order | See Procedure |
|---|---|---|
|
1. Initialization and learning of multi-mode manual transaxle system | |
| 2. Synchronization position calibration | ||
|
1. Initialization and learning of multi-mode manual transaxle system |
Note
If the transaxle assembly is removed from the vehicle, a new clutch release with bearing cylinder assembly must be used when it is reinstalled.
After replacing any system components, perform initialization and learning of related components (refer to the operations listed above). If initialization and learning are not performed, the transaxle system will not function properly.
Before proceeding with learning of the multi-mode manual transaxle system, clear (initialize) the previously stored learned values. Since the multi-mode manual transaxle system does not have an overwrite function, clearing (initializing) stored data is necessary to allow the system to learn.
Do not clear (initialize) parts other than those specified in the "Part Installed" column in the table above.
EFFECT OF MULTI-MODE MANUAL TRANSAXLE PART MALFUNCTION ON LEARNING
Tech Tips
Use the table below to help determine the cause of learning failure.

*1: Initial learning cannot be executed due to voltage decrease.
*2: Initial learning cannot be executed due to a multi-mode manual transaxle part malfunction.
*3: Calibration fails due to the presence of air in the hydraulic system.
*4: DTC can be detected while the vehicle is being driven.
*5: DTC can be detected when the ignition switch is ON.
*6: DTC can be detected during initialization or standby point learning.
*7: DTC can be detected when the shift lever is in R or N.
PRECAUTIONS REGARDING USE OF SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
When the vehicle is parked with the shift lever in any position other than N:
The engine cannot be started if the shift lever is moved to a position other than N while operating the shift lock release button.
The shift lever should be moved back to N to start the engine.
The engine cannot be started if the shift lever is in the position it was in when the vehicle was parked.
The shift lever should be moved back to N to start the engine.
If the shift lever is moved back to N while operating the shift lock release button, turning the ignition switch to ON with the brake pedal depressed will shift the gear to neutral, so that the engine can be started.
When the vehicle is parked with the shift lever in N:
The engine can be started even if the shift lever is moved to a position other than N while operating the shift lock release button. In this case, the gear is shifted to the position in accordance with the shift lever position after the engine starts.
| Shift Lever Position when Vehicle Parked | Current Shift Lever Position | Engine Cranking Operation | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Other than N | Other than N* | Impossible | - |
| Other than N | Same position as when vehicle parked | Impossible | - |
| Other than N | N* | Possible | Gear shifted to neutral when ignition switch is ON with brake pedal depressed |
| N | Other than N* | Possible | Gear shifted to position in accordance with shift lever position after engine start |
| N | N (Same position as when vehicle parked) |
Possible | - |
*: The shift lever was moved while operating the shift lock release button.
PRECAUTION REGARDING USE OF GTS
Note
Observe the following items for safety reasons:
Read its instruction books before using the GTS.
Prevent the GTS cable from being caught on the pedals, shift lever and steering wheel when driving with the GTS connected to the vehicle.
When driving the vehicle for testing purposes using the GTS, two people are required. One drives the vehicle, and the other operates the GTS.
MALFUNCTION RECORD
Even if a system error occurs, the TCM may stop the system and store the history record without outputting a DTC and without illuminating the multi-mode manual transaxle warning light. This historical data can be seen under "Protection Hist" (Protection History) on the data list. If the DTC is cleared, the historical data will also be cleared.
