CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (for Hatchback)

    Note

    When installing a curtain shield airbag assembly, have assistants hold it to prevent it from bending.


    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Engage the 2 hooks in the order shown in the illustration to temporarily install the curtain shield airbag assembly.

      Note

      Do not twist the curtain shield airbag assembly when installing it.

    4. Install 2 new bolts, 6 new clips with pins and 2 new spacers, and engage the 4 clips in the order shown in the illustration to install the curtain shield airbag assembly to the body panel.

      Torque:
      9.8 N*m  { 100 kgf*cm, 87 in.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      Engage the 2 claws to install the new clip.

    5. Push the 6 pins into the 6 clips.

      Note

      Make sure that the pins of the clips are pushed in firmly.

      Connect the airbag connector.

      Note

      When connecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    7. Push in the airbag connector lock to install the airbag connector.

  2. INSTALL CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (for Wagon)

    Note

    When installing a curtain shield airbag assembly, have assistants hold it to prevent it from bending.


    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Engage the 2 hooks in the order shown in the illustration to temporarily install the curtain shield airbag assembly.

    4. Install 2 new bolts, 6 new clips with pins and 2 new spacers, and engage the 4 clips in the order shown in the illustration to install the curtain shield airbag assembly to the body panel.

      Torque:
      9.8 N*m  { 100 kgf*cm, 87 in.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      Engage the 2 claws to install the new clip.

    5. Push the 6 pins into the 6 clips.

      Note

      Make sure that the pins of the clips are pushed in firmly.

      Connect the airbag connector.

      Note

      When connecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    7. Push in the airbag connector lock to install the airbag connector.

  3. INSTALL NO. 2 SIDE PANEL STRENGTH BRACKET (for Wagon)


    1. Engage the hook and install the No. 2 side panel strength bracket with the bolt.

  4. INSTALL CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (for Sedan)

    Note

    When installing a curtain shield airbag assembly, have assistants hold it to prevent it from bending.


    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Install 2 new bolts, 6 new clips with pins and 2 new spacers, and engage the 2 hooks and 4 clips in the order shown in the illustration to install the curtain shield airbag assembly to the body panel.

      Torque:
      11 N*m  { 112 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      Do not twist the curtain shield airbag assembly when installing it.

      Tech Tips

      Engage the 2 claws to install the new clip.

    4. Push the 6 pins into the 6 clips.

      Note

      Make sure that the pins of the clips are pushed in firmly.

      Connect the airbag connector.

      Note

      When connecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    6. Push in the airbag connector lock to install the airbag connector.

  6. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
