| DTC Code | DTC Name |
|---|---|
| P0046 | Turbocharger / Supercharger Boost Control "A" Circuit Range / Performance |
DESCRIPTION
The DC motor is used to operate the nozzle vane of the turbocharger. The nozzle vane opens and closes to change the velocity of exhaust gases in order to control the turbo pressure. The ECM varies the duty-cycle of the DC motor in accordance with the driving conditions.
If the nozzle vane is stuck closed (DC motor stuck off), the drivability may deteriorate at wide open throttle. If the nozzle vane is stuck open (DC motor stuck on), the drivability may deteriorate at intermediate throttle or the engine power may be insufficient.
| DTC No. | Detection Item | DTC Detection Condition | Trouble Area | MIL | Memory |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| P0046 | Turbocharger / Supercharger Boost Control "A" Circuit Range / Performance | Condition (A): Either of following conditions is met (2 trip detection logic)
Condition (B): VN turbocharger position does not change smoothly within predetermined time of ignition switch being turned from ON to off (while EFI-MAIN relay is ON) (Determination of a malfunction is conducted within a given time after the ignition switch is turned from ON to off. If a malfunction is detected within this time, DTC is set when the ignition switch is next turned to ON) (MIL is not illuminated) (2 trip detection logic) |

Tech Tips
If DTC P0046 is stored, the following symptoms may appear.
Poor acceleration
Lack of power due to fail-safe operation
CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
Tech Tips
When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the GTS. Then after installing a new ECM, perform all of the initialization and registration procedures for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the GTS display.
Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
PROCEDURE
CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0046)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
Read the DTCs.
