FRONT UPPER SUSPENSION ARM (for 2WD) REMOVAL

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

  • The procedures listed below are for the LH side.


  1. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER


    1. Remove the cowl top ventilator louver for 1UR-FSE Click here.

    2. Remove the cowl top ventilator louver for 1UR-FE Click here.

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    CAUTION:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

    Note

    After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Click here.

  3. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL

  4. DISCONNECT SPEED SENSOR CONNECTOR

      Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the connector from the speed sensor.

      Note

      Do not twist the speed sensor wire.

  5. DISCONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01GJTP

      Remove the bolt and disconnect the flexible hose from the steering knuckle.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts and front disc brake caliper assembly LH.

      Note


      • Hang the front disc brake caliper assembly with a rope or wire.

      • Do not damage the brake hose.

  6. REMOVE FRONT DISC

      Remove the front disc from the front axle hub.

      Tech Tips

      Put matchmarks on the disc and axle hub.

  7. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER LH

      Remove the 4 bolts and front disc brake dust cover LH.

  8. DISCONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Remove the clip and nut.

    2. Install 2 spacers (SST spacer B) onto the tie rod assembly LH so that there is a space of approximately 1 mm (0.0397 in.) between the arm and spacers.

      Note


      • Make sure to install the spacers (SST spacer B) as the steering knuckle spacer may shift.

      • As SST may become damaged, make sure the space between the arm and spacers is not 1 mm (0.0397 in.) or less.

      Note


      • Do not damage the dust cover.

      • As the dust cover may be damaged, adjust SST with the center nut so that the body and crow are the parallel.

      • Make sure to tie the string of SST to the vehicle to prevent SST from dropping.

    3. Using SST, disconnect the tie rod assembly from the steering knuckle.

  9. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01GHYM

      Remove the clip and nut.

    2. Install SST (attachment) to the front No. 1 suspension lower arm assembly LH so that there is a space of approximately 2 mm (0.0787 in.) between the arm and attachment.

      Note


      • Be sure to install SST (attachment) as the spacer may shift.

      • As SST may become damaged, make sure the space between the arm and attachment is not less than 2 mm (0.0787 in.).

    3. Using SST, disconnect the front No. 1 suspension lower arm assembly LH from the steering knuckle.

      Note


      • Apply molybdenum grease to the bolt threads and end of the SST bolt.

      • Do not damage the dust cover of the lower arm No. 1.

      • Make sure that the bolt of SST and the ball joint are in a straight line when installing SST.

      • Be sure to tie the string of SST to the vehicle, to prevent SST from dropping.

      • Do not apply a torque of 160 N*m (1631 kgf*cm, 118 ft.*lbf) or more to SST as it may be damaged.

  10. DISCONNECT FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01GILO

      Remove the bolt, and then remove the bracket of the front height control sensor LH.

  11. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH

      Remove the 2 nuts and front stabilizer link assembly LH.

      Tech Tips

      If the stud bolt turns with the nut, use a 6 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud.

  12. REMOVE AIR CONNECTOR CLIP HOLDER (w/ Air Suspension)

      Pinch and pull the air connector clip holder to release the connector No. 1.

  13. DISCONNECT NO. 8 HEIGHT CONTROL TUBE (w/ Air Suspension)


    1. Pinch and pull the connector No. 1 to release it.

    2. A01GME7E01

      Using SST, disconnect the No. 4 height control tube from the pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH.

      Note

      After pulling out the height control tube, replace the O-ring and plate with new ones.

  14. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01GLG6

      Support the steering knuckle LH with a jack and wooden block.

    2. A01GM42

      Remove the bolt and nut, and then disconnect the bottom side of the pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH from the front No. 2 suspension lower arm LH.

    3. A01GHOG

      Remove the nut and clip.

    4. Install SST (attachment) to the front No. 2 suspension lower arm assembly LH so that there is a space of approximately 2 mm (0.0787 in.) between the front No. 2 suspension lower arm and attachment.

      Note


      • Make sure to install SST (attachment) as the spacer may shift.

      • As SST may become damaged, make sure the space between the front No. 2 suspension lower arm and attachment is not less than 2 mm (0.0787 in.).

    5. Using SST, disconnect the front No. 2 suspension lower arm assembly LH from the lower ball joint.

      Tech Tips

      When installing SST, insert SST from the rear of the vehicle, place it on the lower arm and rotate it so that it is as shown in the illustration.

      Note


      • Apply molybdenum grease to the bolt threads and end of the SST bolt.

      • Do not damage the dust cover.

      • Make sure that the bolt of SST and the ball joint are in a straight line when installing SST.

      • Be sure to tie the string of SST to the vehicle to prevent SST from dropping.

      • Do not apply a torque of 160 N*m (1631 kgf*cm, 118 ft.*lbf) or more to SST as it may be damaged.

    6. A01GMFE

      Loosen the nut of the No. 2 suspension lower arm.

  15. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the 4 clips and air cleaner inlet cover.

  16. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH

      Remove the 5 clips and engine room side cover LH.

  17. REMOVE FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER CAP LH (w/ Air Suspension)

      Remove the 3 nuts and front shock absorber cap LH.

    2. Disconnect the connector.

  18. REMOVE ABSORBER CONTROL ACTUATOR (w/ Air Suspension)


    1. A01GMBA

      Turn the absorber control actuator counterclockwise 40° and remove it from the pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH.

  19. REMOVE FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH (w/o Air Suspension)

      Loosen the lock nut of the front shock absorber.

      Note


      • Do not remove the lock nut.

      • Loosen the lock nut only when disassembling the front shock absorber with coil spring.

      Remove the 3 nuts from the upper side of the front suspension support.

    3. Slowly lower the jack. Remove the bolt from the lower side to remove the front shock absorber with coil spring.

  20. REMOVE PNEUMATIC CYLINDER WITH FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH (w/ Air Suspension)


    1. A01GNO4

      Remove the 3 nuts and pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH.

      Note

      Hold the pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH to prevent it from dropping.

  21. REMOVE FRONT PNEUMATIC CYLINDER LH O-RING (w/ Air Suspension)

    Tech Tips

    If replacing the pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH with a new one, this procedure is not necessary.

      Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 clips and remove the tube connector.

    2. A01GN7E

      Using a screwdriver, remove the plate and 2 O-rings.

  22. REMOVE STEERING KNUCKLE SUB-ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01GLG6

      Support the steering knuckle LH with a jack and wooden block.

    2. A01GM2P

      Remove the 2 clips and 2 nuts.

    3. Install 2 spacers (SST spacer B) onto the front No. 1 suspension upper arm assembly LH so that there is a space of approximately 1 mm (0.0394 in.) between the arm and spacers.

      • Make sure to install the spacers (SST spacer B) as the steering knuckle spacer may shift.

      • As SST may become damaged, make sure the space between the arm and spacers is not 1 mm (0.0394 in.) or less.

    4. Using SST, disconnect the front No. 1 suspension upper arm from the steering knuckle.

      • As the dust cover may be damaged, adjust SST with the center nut so that the body and crow are parallel.

    5. Install 2 spacers (SST spacer B) onto the front No. 2 suspension upper arm assembly LH so that there is a space of approximately 1 mm (0.0394 in.) between the arm and spacers.

    6. Using SST, disconnect the front No. 2 suspension upper arm from the steering knuckle.

  23. REMOVE NO. 1 ARM ATTACHMENT PLATE INNER LH


    1. A01GHXD

      Remove the 3 bolts and No. 1 arm attachment plate inner LH.

  24. REMOVE NO. 2 ARM ATTACHMENT PLATE INNER LH


    1. A01GKHA

      Remove the 2 bolts and No. 2 arm attachment plate inner LH.

  25. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Remove the bolt and nut, and then remove the front No. 1 suspension upper arm assembly LH from the No. 1 arm attachment plate inner LH.

  26. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Remove the bolt and nut, and then remove the front No. 2 suspension upper arm assembly LH from the No. 2 arm attachment plate inner LH.
