IGNITION SWITCH INSTALLATION


  1. INSTALL IGNITION SWITCH

    A01BGBI

    1. Install the ignition switch to the steering column upper bracket with the 2 screws.

  2. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN UPPER W/ SWITCH BRACKET ASSEMBLY


    1. Temporarily install the steering column upper with switch bracket assembly and steering column upper clamp with 2 new tapered-head bolts.

    2. A01BFVJ

      Tighten the 2 tapered-head bolts until the bolt heads break off.

  3. INSTALL WIPER SWITCH


    1. Install the wiper switch with the claw.

      Tech Tips

      Slide the steering column cover upper upward to install the wiper switch.

    2. Connect the connector.

  4. INSTALL HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH


    1. Install the headlight dimmer switch with the claw.

      Tech Tips

      Slide the steering column upper cover upward to install the headlight dimmer switch.

    2. Connect the connector.

  5. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE ASSEMBLY (w/ Airbag System)


    1. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.

    2. Set the turn signal switch to the neutral position.

      Note

      If it is not in the neutral position, the pin of the turn signal switch may snap.

    3. A01BGCIE02

      Engage the 3 claws and install the spiral cable with steering sensor.

      Note

      When replacing the spiral cable with a new one, remove the lock pin before installing the steering wheel assembly.

    4. Connect the connectors to the spiral cable with steering sensor.

      Note

      When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

  6. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN UPPER COVER

  7. INSTALL HORN CONTACT PLATE (w/o Airbag System)


    1. A01BGZQ

      Engage the 2 claws and install the horn contact plate.

    2. Connect the connector.

  8. INSTALL STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT


    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly No.2 and the steering gear assembly.

    2. A01BC00E01

      Temporarily install the bolt.

  9. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY


    1. Temporarily install the steering column assembly with the 3 bolts.

      A01BFD9E01
    2. Fully tighten the 3 bolts on the steering column assembly.

      Torque:
      21 N*m  { 214 kgf*cm, 16 ft.*lbf }
    3. Fully tighten the bolt on the steering intermediate shaft assembly No.2.

      Torque:
      36 N*m  { 367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      Ensure that the steering column assembly is in the lowermost tilt position.

    4. Connect the connectors and clamp the wire harness to the steering column assembly bracket.

    5. A01BCES

      Install the steering shaft cover with the 3 bolts.

      Torque:
      8.0 N*m  { 82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf }
  10. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH LOWER PANEL


    1. A01BHMVE01

      Engage the 4 clips (B).

    2. Install the instrument panel finish panel lower with the 2 clips (A).

  11. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  12. CENTER SPIRAL CABLE (w/ Airbag System)


    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.

    2. Check that the battery negative (-) terminal is disconnected.

      CAUTION:

      After removing the terminal, wait for at least 90 seconds before starting the operation.

    3. A01BDHD

      Rotate the spiral cable with steering sensor counterclockwise slowly by hand until it feels firm.

      Note

      Do not turn the spiral cable with steering sensor by the airbag wire harness.

    4. A01BD2G

      Rotate the spiral cable with steering sensor clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks.

      Note

      Do not turn the spiral cable with steering sensor by the airbag wire harness.

      Tech Tips

      The spiral cable with steering sensor will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to both the left and right from the center.

  13. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN LOWER COVER


    1. A01BEIN

      Engage the 3 claws to install the steering column cover upper and lower with the 2 "torx" screws.

      Torque:
      1.5 N*m  { 15 kgf*cm, 13 in.*lbf }
  14. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BEFRE01

      w/o AIRBAG:


      1. Position the horn contact plate so that the projecting parts are as shown the illustration.

    2. Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and the steering column assembly.

    3. Install the nut.

      Torque:
      50 N*m  { 510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf }
    4. Connect the connectors.

  15. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT

  16. INSTALL STEERING PAD (w/ Airbag System)


    1. Support the steering pad with one hand.

    2. A01BGEG

      Connect the connector to the steering pad.

      Note

      When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    3. Connect the horn connector.

    4. Confirm that the circumference groove of the "torx" screw fits in the screw case, and place the steering pad onto the steering wheel assembly.

    5. A01BDT6E02

      Using a "torx" socket wrench (T30), tighten the 2 "torx" screws.

      Torque:
      8.8 N*m  { 90 kgf*cm, 78 in.*lbf }
  17. INSTALL NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL LOWER COVER (w/ Airbag System)


    1. Install the steering wheel cover lower No.3.

  18. INSTALL NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL LOWER COVER (w/ Airbag System)


    1. Install the steering wheel cover lower No.2.

  19. INSPECT STEERING PAD (w/ Airbag System)

      With the steering pad installed on the vehicle, perform a visual check. If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the steering pad with a new one:


      • Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the steering pad top surface or in the grooved portion.

    2. Make sure that the horn sounds.

      Tech Tips

      If the horn does not sound, inspect the horn system.

  20. INSTALL STEERING PAD (w/o Airbag System)


    1. Connect the horn connector.

    2. A01BAW6E01

      Install the steering pad with the screw.

      Torque:
      1.5 N*m  { 15 kgf*cm, 13 in.*lbf }
  21. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    Torque:
    5.4 N*m  { 55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf }
  22. INSPECT SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT
