CAUTION:

Before performing pre-disposal deployment of any pop up hood lifter, review and closely follow all applicable environmental and hazardous material regulations. Pre-disposal deployment may be considered hazardous material treatment.

Tip:

  • Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.

  • The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.

    PRECAUTION

    CAUTION:

    • An airbag or pretensioner may be activated by static electricity. To prevent this, be sure to touch a metal surface with your bare hands to discharge static electricity before performing this procedure.

    • Do not perform this procedure indoors or on rough roads where safety cannot be ensured. Also, do not deploy SRS parts near residential areas.

      If this procedure is performed indoors or on rough roads where safety cannot be ensured, unforeseen injuries may occur. Also, the deployment noise creates a nuisance to nearby residents.

    Tip:

    When scrapping a vehicle equipped with an SRS or disposing of the pop up hood lifter assembly LH, be sure to deploy the pop up hood lifter assembly LH first in accordance with the procedure described below. If any abnormality occurs with the pop up hood lifter assembly LH deployment, contact the Service Dept. of the distributor.

    DISPOSE OF POP UP HOOD LIFTER ASSEMBLY LH (When Installed in Vehicle)

    Note:

    • When disposing of a pop up hood lifter assembly LH, use an unneeded vehicle to deploy the pop up hood lifter assembly LH.

    • Be sure to observe the following procedure when deploying the pop up hood lifter assembly LH.

    Tip:

    Prepare a battery as the power source to deploy the pop up hood lifter assembly LH.

    3. Remove the luggage compartment mat sub-assembly.

      Click here

    4. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      • Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      • If the pop up hood lifter assembly LH deploys for any reason, it may cause a serious accident.

    5. Remove the headlight assembly LH.

      Disconnect pop up hood lifter connector.

      Note:

      When disconnecting any pop up hood lifter connector, take care not to damage the wire harness.


      1. Push down the housing lock and slide the CPA. (At this time, the connector cannot be disconnected yet.)

      2. Push the housing lock again and disconnect the connector.

        Note:

        Do not push down the upper part of the CPA shown in the illustration when disconnecting the pop up hood lifter connector.

    7. Install SST.

        Connect SST to the pop up hood lifter assembly LH.

        • Do not deploy if the pop up hood lifter assembly LH is loose.

        • If deployed while the pop up hood lifter assembly LH is loose, the pop up hood lifter assembly LH may fly off and cause serious injuries.

      2. Connect SST together (09082-00700 and 09082-00820).

        Note:

        To avoid damaging SST connector or wire harness, do not lock the secondary lock of the twin lock.

      3. Close the engine hood.

        CAUTION:

        Do not deploy with engine hood is open.

        Move SST at least 10 m (32.8 ft.) away from the engine compartment of the vehicle.

      5. Connect the red clip of SST to the positive (+) battery terminal and the black clip of SST to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    8. Deploy the pop up hood lifter assembly LH.


      1. Check that no one is within a 10 m (32.8 ft.) radius of the vehicle.

      2. Press SST activation switch to deploy the pop up hood lifter assembly LH.

        CAUTION:

        • Do not deploy with people inside or around the vehicle.

        • If deployed with people inside or around the vehicle, serious injuries may occur.

        Tip:

        The pop up hood lifter assembly LH is deployed as the LED of SST activation switch comes on.

    9. Remove the pop up hood lifter assembly LH.

      CAUTION:

      • B004UID

        The pop up hood lifter assembly LH becomes extremely hot when the pop up hood lifter assembly LH is deployed, so do not touch it for at least 30 minutes after deployment.

      • If not left alone for 30 minutes or more, burns may occur when touched.

        Do not apply water etc. to a pop up hood lifter assembly LH with a deployed pop up hood lifter assembly LH.

      • If water is applied to the pop up hood lifter assembly LH immediately after deployment, burns may occur from the resulting steam.

        Always wear safety glasses and gloves when handling a deployed pop up hood lifter assembly LH.

      • If the pop up hood lifter assembly LH is touched without wearing safety glasses and gloves, hot parts may cause burns and dust may enter the eyes.

      • After removal, quickly seal the pop up hood lifter assembly LH in a plastic bag.

    10. Dispose of the pop up hood lifter assembly LH.


      1. Place the pop up hood lifter assembly LH in a plastic bag, tie it tightly and dispose of it according to local regulations.

        CAUTION:

          The pop up hood lifter assembly LH becomes extremely hot when the pop up hood lifter assembly LH is deployed, so do not touch it for at least 30 minutes after deployment.

        • If not left alone for 30 minutes or more, burns may occur when touched.

    5. Remove the pop up hood lifter assembly LH.

      Using braided wire, tie down the pop up hood lifter assembly LH to an unneeded tire.

      1.25 mm2 (0.0019 in.2) or more
      CAUTION:

      If the wire is too thin or an alternative object is used to tie down the pop up hood lifter assembly LH, it may snap when the pop up hood lifter assembly LH is deployed. Always use a wire for vehicle use with a cross sectional area of at least 1.25 mm2 (0.0019 in.2).

      Tip:

      To calculate the area of the cross-sectional area of stripped wire:

      Cross sectional area = 3.14 x (Diameter)2 / 4

        Position the pop up hood lifter assembly LH inside the tire with the extended section facing inward.

        Minimum tire size
        Must exceed the following dimensions

        185 mm (7.28 in.)

        • Do not install the pop up hood lifter assembly LH with the extended section facing outside.

        • When securing the pop up hood lifter assembly LH, make sure there is no looseness in the wire harness.

        • If the extended section is facing outside or the wire harness is loosely wrapped, the deployed pop up hood lifter assembly LH and tire may fly off and cause serious injuries.

        Note:

        The tire may be damaged by the pop up hood lifter assembly LH deployment, so use unneeded tire.

    8. Place the tires.

        *a Tires (2 or more)

        Place at least 2 tires under the tire to which the pop up hood lifter assembly LH is tied.

      2. Place at least 2 tires onto the tire to which the pop up hood lifter assembly LH is tied. The top tire should have a wheel installed.

        Note:

        • Do not place SST connector under the tire because it could be damaged.

        • The wheel and tires may be damaged by the pop up hood lifter assembly LH deployment, so use an unneeded wheel and tires.

      3. B004T13

        Tie the tires together with 2 wires.

        CAUTION:

        Make sure that the wires are tight. Looseness in the wires will result in the tires breaking loose when the pop up hood lifter assembly LH is deployed.

    9. Install SST.

        *a 10 m (32.8 ft.) or more

        Connect SST together (09082-00700 and 09082-00820).

        Note:

        To avoid damaging SST connector or wire harness, do not lock the secondary lock of the twin lock. Also, secure some slack for SST wire harness inside the tire.

      2. Move SST at least 10 m (32.8 ft.) away from the pop up hood lifter assembly LH tied down to the tire.

    10. Deploy the pop up hood lifter assembly LH.


      1. Connect the red clip of SST to the positive (+) battery terminal and the black clip of SST to the negative (-) battery terminal.

      2. Check that no one is within a 10 m (32.8 ft.) radius of the tire to which the pop up hood lifter assembly LH is tied.

      3. Press SST activation switch to deploy the pop up hood lifter assembly LH.

        CAUTION:

        • Do not deploy with people around the tire.

        • If deployed with people around the tire, serious injuries may occur.

        Tip:

        The pop up hood lifter assembly LH is deployed as the LED of SST activation switch comes on.

    11. Dispose of the pop up hood lifter assembly LH.

      CAUTION:

        The pop up hood lifter assembly LH becomes extremely hot when the pop up hood lifter assembly LH is deployed, so do not touch it for at least 30 minutes after deployment.

      • If not left alone for 30 minutes or more, burns may occur when touched.
