PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:B16A6

DTC Code DTC Name
B16A6 Chamber / Absorber Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

This DTC is stored when the pedestrian protection sensors detect a pressure higher than the specified value. When this DTC is stored, the pedestrian detection ECU assembly sends a signal via CAN communication to display "POP UP HOOD Malfunction Visit Your Dealer" on the multi-information display to inform the driver of the malfunction.

B16A6 is output when external forces deform the pop up hood chamber, and the pedestrian protection sensor and front bumper energy absorber detect pressure equal to or greater than a certain amount and determines that operation of the pop up hood system may be affected.

PROCEDURE

  1. REPLACE FRONT BUMPER ENERGY ABSORBER

    Tech Tips

If B16A6/98 is output, it is necessary to replace the front bumper energy absorber. Even if no cracks or other damage can be seen on the front bumper energy absorber, internal components may have been damaged, adversely affecting the operation of the pop up hood system.

    1. Turn the power switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Replace the front bumper energy absorber with a new one.
