VISUALLY CHECK TURBOCHARGER SUB-ASSEMBLY
Check for deformation and cracks in the turbine wheel on the exhaust side.
If the turbine wheel is cracked or deformed, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.

Tech Tips
The cut part indicated in the illustration at A is normal and does not indicate that the turbine wheel is damaged.
CHECK TURBINE SHAFT ROTATION
Rotate the turbine wheel on the exhaust side with your finger and check that it rotates smoothly.
If the turbine wheel does not rotate smoothly, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.
Tech Tips
Due to the viscosity of the oil, it may take a little effort to rotate the turbine wheel. This is not a problem.
Move the turbine wheel as shown in the illustration and check that there is no looseness in the shaft and that the turbine wheel does not contact the housing.
If there is any contact with the housing or obvious looseness in the shaft, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.
Tech Tips
A clearance on the order of 100 μm exists between the turbine shaft and bearings. If it is difficult to judge the looseness of turbine shaft, perform same inspection on another vehicle which has the same turbocharger sub-assembly and compare the clearance.
