ENGINE GENERAL MAINTENANCE

Tip:

Perform these procedures after the engine has cooled down.

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT DRIVE BELT

    1. Inspect the drive belt.

  2. INSPECT VALVE CLEARANCE

    1. Inspect the valve clearance.

  3. REPLACE ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER

    1. Replace the engine oil and oil filter.

  4. REPLACE ENGINE COOLANT

    1. Replace the engine coolant.

  5. INSPECT SPARK PLUGS

    1. Inspect the spark plugs.

  6. INSPECT BATTERY

    1. Inspect the battery.

  7. INSPECT AIR CLEANER FILTER ELEMENT

    1. Remove the air cleaner filter element.

    2. A156094

      Inspect that the air cleaner filter element is not excessively dirty.

      If the air cleaner filter element is excessively dirty, replace the air cleaner filter element.

    3. If cleaning the air cleaner filter element, blow compressed air as shown in the illustration to clean it.

    4. Reinstall the air cleaner filter element.

  8. INSPECT EXHAUST PIPES AND MOUNTINGS

    1. Visually Inspect the pipes, hangers and connections for severe corrosion, leaks or damage.

  9. INSPECT FUEL TANK CAP GASKET

    1. Inspect the fuel tank cap gasket.

  10. INSPECT FUEL LINES, CONNECTIONS, FUEL TANK VAPOR VENT SYSTEM HOSES AND FUEL TANK BANDS

    1. Visually Inspect the fuel lines and hoses for cracks, leaks, loose connections, or deformation.

    2. Inspect for tank band looseness or deformation.

  11. INSPECT CHARCOAL CANISTER

    1. Inspect the charcoal canister.
