LIGHTING SYSTEM

  1. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS

    Component Function
    Headlight Leveling ECU Assembly
    • Detects changes of vehicle movement based on the rear height control sensor sub-assembly LH and vehicle speed signal.

    • Outputs control signals to the headlight leveling motors based on the detected value.

    • Provides initial set control and a fail-safe function.

    Headlight Assembly Headlight Leveling Motor
    • Based on the signals received from the headlight leveling ECU assembly, the motors move the reflectors in the headlights.

    • Uses a step motor to precisely regulate the angle of the projector headlight units.

Rear Height Control Sensor Sub-assembly LH Detects the height of the vehicle.
Skid Control ECU Transmits the rear speed sensor signal to the headlight leveling ECU assembly.
ECM Transmits the engine running status signal to the headlight leveling ECU assembly.
Main Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU) Transmits the headlight status signal to the headlight leveling ECU assembly.
Combination Meter Assembly Multi-information Display* Displays a warning message on the multi-information display if a malfunction is detected by the headlight leveling ECU assembly.
Headlight Leveling Indicator Light If the system malfunctions, the meter ECU alerts the driver by illuminating the headlight leveling indicator light in accordance with the signal from the headlight leveling ECU assembly.

    • *: Models with Optitron type combination meter assembly

  2. FUNCTION

    1. The automatic headlight beam level control system mainly consists of a headlight leveling ECU assembly, a rear height control sensor sub-assembly LH and 2 headlight leveling motors.

    2. The headlight leveling ECU assembly calculates changes in the vehicle posture based on the signals from the rear height control sensor sub-assembly LH.

    3. Following this, the ECU controls the headlight leveling motor based on this information, in order to change the projector headlight unit angle.

    4. Initial Set Control

      1. When the engine is started, the headlight leveling ECU assembly drives the headlight leveling motor, moves the projector headlight unit to the lower limit position and returns it to the proper position. The headlight leveling ECU assembly thus assesses the position of the headlight for reference control.

  3. FAIL-SAFE

    1. If the headlight leveling ECU assembly detects a malfunction in the automatic headlight beam level control system, it will take the actions indicated in the table below:

Trouble Area Fail-safe Control Indicator Light

      Abnormal Power Source Voltage:

      • High Voltage (18.5 V or more)

      • Low Voltage (9.0 V or less)

      Stops Leveling Operation Illuminates

Abnormal Rear Height Control Sensor Sub-assembly LH Power Source Voltage:

      • High Voltage (6.25 V or more)

      • Low Voltage (4.6 V or less)

Abnormal Rear Height Control Sensor Sub-assembly LH Signal Voltage:

      • High Voltage (4.75 V or more)

      • Low Voltage (0.25 V or less)

      Inappropriate Voltage at Initialization:

      • The rear height control sensor sub-assembly LH voltage was inappropriate at initialization.

      Invalid Vehicle Codes:

      • The headlight leveling ECU assembly does not support the written vehicle codes or is not able to read them.
