STEERING GEAR DISASSEMBLY

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note


  • When using a vise, place aluminum plates between the part and vise.

  • When using a vise, do not overtighten it.

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.

  • The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE STEERING TURN PRESSURE TUBE (for 2WD)

      Using a union nut wrench, remove the 2 steering turn pressure tubes.

    2. Remove the 4 O-rings.

  2. REMOVE STEERING TURN PRESSURE TUBE (for 4WD and Pre-Runner)


    1. for LHD:


      1. B0026RW

        Using a union nut wrench, remove the 2 steering turn pressure tubes.

      2. Remove the 4 O-rings.

    2. for RHD:


      1. Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets.

      2. Using a union nut wrench, remove the 2 steering turn pressure tubes.

      3. Remove the 3 O-rings.

  3. SECURE POWER STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY

      Using SST, secure the power steering link assembly.

  4. REMOVE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

      *1 Rack End
      *a Matchmark

      Place matchmarks on the tie rod end sub-assembly LH, lock nut and rack end.

    2. Loosen the lock nut and remove the tie rod end sub-assembly LH and lock nut.

  5. REMOVE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  6. REMOVE STEERING RACK BOOT CLAMP LH


    1. B0024Q7

      Using a screwdriver, remove the steering rack boot clamp LH.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the steering rack boot LH.

  7. REMOVE STEERING RACK BOOT CLAMP RH

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  8. REMOVE STEERING RACK BOOT CLIP LH


    1. Using pliers, remove the steering rack boot clip LH.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the steering rack boot.

  9. REMOVE STEERING RACK BOOT CLIP RH

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  10. REMOVE STEERING RACK BOOT LH

  12. REMOVE STEERING RACK END SUB-ASSEMBLY

      *b Turn

      Using SST, hold the steering rack end sub-assembly.

    2. Using SST, remove the steering rack end (LH side) from the steering rack sub-assembly.

      Rotate SST in the direction shown in the illustration.

    3. Using SST, remove the steering rack end (RH side) from the steering rack sub-assembly.
