PROCEDURE
CHECK TRANSFER OIL
Stop the vehicle on a level surface.
Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and 10 x 12 mm long offset wrench, remove the No. 2 transfer case plug (for filler) and gasket.
| *a | 0 to 5.0 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) |
Check that the oil level is between 0 to 5.0 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) from the bottom lip of the No. 2 transfer case plug (for filler) hole.
If the result is not as specified, add transfer oil.
| Oil grade |
|---|
| Toyota Genuine Differential gear oil LT API GL-5 or equivalent |
| Viscosity |
|---|
| SAE 75W-85 |
Note
When adding oil, pour it slowly.
Too much or too little oil will lead to transfer problems.
If the oil level is low, refill oil after checking for oil leaks.
| *1 | 10 mm Straight Hexagon Wrench |
| *2 | 12 mm Hexagon Socket Wrench |
| *3 | 10 x 12 mm Long Offset Wrench |
| *a | Torque Wrench Fulcrum Length |
Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench, 12 mm hexagon socket wrench and 10 x 12 mm long offset wrench, install a new gasket into the No. 2 transfer case plug (for filler) and then install the No. 2 transfer case plug (for filler).
Tech Tips
Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.
When using a long offset wrench (fulcrum length of 189.75 mm (7.4705 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 255 mm (10.0394 in.)): 22.4 N*m (228 kgf*cm, 17 ft.*lbf)
