DESCRIPTION

By turning the solenoid (SL) valve ON or OFF, the ECM controls the fluid pressure to the lock-up relay valve, performing lock-up control.

Fail-safe function:

If the ECM detects a malfunction, it turns the solenoid (SL) valve OFF.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

Based on the signals from the throttle position sensor, the air flow meter and the crankshaft position sensor, the ECM sends a signal to the solenoid (SL) valve to regulate the hydraulic pressure and provide smooth torque converter assembly engagement. The solenoid (SL) valve responds to commands from the ECM and controls the lock-up relay valve to perform the torque-converter lock-up function. If the ECM detects an open or short in the solenoid (SL) valve circuit, it will illuminate the MIL and store a DTC.

Tech Tips

After repair has been completed, clear the DTC and then check that the vehicle has returned to normal by performing the following All Readiness check procedure.


  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.

  3. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).

  4. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  5. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.

  6. Perform the Lock-up Function in Road Test.

  7. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Utility / All Readiness.

  8. Input the DTC: P074015.

  9. Check the DTC judgment result.

    Tech Tips


    • If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

    • If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform the Confirmation Driving Pattern and check the DTC judgment result again.

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE (SOLENOID (SL) VALVE) - ECM)


    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

      Remove the solenoid (SL) valve.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    3. Connect a positive (+) lead from the battery to the terminal of the solenoid valve connector, and a negative (-) lead to the solenoid body. Check that the valve moves and makes an operating sound.
