TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

  1. PRECAUTION

    Note:

    After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

  2. SECURE VEHICLE

    1. Fully apply the parking brake and chock a wheel.

      CAUTION:
      • Make sure to apply the parking brake and chock a wheel before performing this procedure.

      • If the vehicle is not secure and shift lever is moved to N, the vehicle may suddenly move, possibly resulting in an accident or serious injury.

  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

  4. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY

  5. REMOVE NO. 2 CYLINDER HEAD COVER (for 1ZR-FE)

  6. REMOVE NO. 2 CYLINDER HEAD COVER (for 2ZR-FE)

  7. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 1ZR-FE)

  8. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2ZR-FE)

  9. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 1ZR-FE)

  10. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2ZR-FE)

  11. REMOVE BATTERY (for 1ZR-FE)

  12. REMOVE BATTERY (for 2ZR-FE)

  13. REMOVE BATTERY CARRIER ASSEMBLY (for 1ZR-FE)

  14. REMOVE BATTERY CARRIER ASSEMBLY (for 2ZR-FE)

  15. REMOVE FRONT CENTER FLOOR BRACE (for 1ZR-FE)

  16. REMOVE FRONT CENTER FLOOR BRACE (for 2ZR-FE)

  17. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (TWC: Front and Rear Catalyst) (for 1ZR-FE)

  18. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (TWC: Front and Rear Catalyst) (for 2ZR-FE)

  19. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR

    1. C151673

      Remove the 3 nuts and front No. 1 floor heat insulator from the vehicle body.

  20. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

    1. Move the shift lever to N.

    2. C330479

      Separate the end of the transmission control cable assembly from the transmission floor shift assembly.

      Stopper

      Using a screwdriver, pull out the stopper of the transmission control cable assembly.

      Note:

      Do not remove the stopper. If it is removed, reinstall it to its original position.

      Nut

      *b

      Turn approximately 180°

      Turn the nut of the transmission control cable assembly approximately 180° counterclockwise and, while holding the nut in that position, disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the shift lever assembly.

      Note:

      Do not turn the nut excessively as the internal spring may come off and the transmission control cable assembly will not be reusable.

      Remove the nut and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the control shaft lever.

    6. Remove the clip and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the No. 1 transmission control cable bracket.

      Remove the bolt and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the rear engine mounting insulator.

      Remove the 2 nuts and then remove the transmission control cable assembly from the vehicle body.
