PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT ILLUMINATION DURATION OF GLOW INDICATOR LIGHT

    1. B003NI4C01
      *a Light Illumination Duration
      *b Engine Coolant Temperature

      Inspect the light illumination duration.

      1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and then measure the light illumination duration.

        Light illumination duration
        Refer to the graph.
      2. Turn the ignition switch off.

        • If the result is not as specified, inspect the ECM, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plug and glow relay.

        Tech Tips

Actual light illumination duration may vary slightly from the graph.

  2. INSPECT PRE-HEATING

    1. B003L43C01
      *a Pre-heating Time
      *b Battery Voltage

      Inspect the pre-heating time.

      1. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Measure how long it takes for battery voltage to be applied to the glow plugs.

        Standard Time
        Engine Coolant Temperature Pre-heating Time
        40°C (104°F) or higher 1 second
        below 40°C (104°F)

        Refer to the graph

        (maximum: 15 seconds)

      2. Turn the ignition switch off.

        • If the result is not as specified, inspect the ECM, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plug and glow relay.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to START. Check that battery voltage is applied to the glow plugs.

    3. While cranking the engine, measure how long it takes for battery voltage to be applied to the glow plugs.

      Standard Time
      Engine Coolant Temperature Pre-heating Time
      40°C (104°F) or higher 1 second
      below 40°C (104°F)

      Refer to the graph

      (maximum: 15 seconds)

      • If the result is not as specified, inspect the ECM, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plug and glow relay.

  3. INSPECT AFTER GLOW TIME

    1. Inspect the afterglow time.

      B003MZRC05
*a Component with harness connected (ECM) *b After Glow Time
      *c Engine Coolant Temperature - -

      1. After the engine starts, measure how long it takes for battery voltage to be applied to terminals G141-15 (GREL) and C115-7 (E1) of the ECM.

        Standard Time
        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        G141-15 (GREL) - C115-7 (E1) Refer to the graph

        • If the result is not as specified, inspect the ECM, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plug and glow relay.
