SFI SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0500

DTC Code DTC Name
P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor

DESCRIPTION

The wheel speed sensor monitors the wheel rotation speed and sends a signal to the skid control ECU. The skid control ECU converts the wheel speed signal into a 4-pulse signal and transmits it to the ECM via the combination meter. The ECM determines the vehicle speed based on the frequency of the pulse signal.

Tip:

Each ECU controls its respective system based on this pulse signal, and if a short occurs in any of the ECUs or in the wire harness connected to an ECU, all systems that use the vehicle speed signal to perform control will not operate normally.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tip:

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. READ VALUE USING GTS (VEHICLE SPEED)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Vehicle Speed.

    5. Drive the vehicle.

    6. Read the value displayed on the GTS.

      OK

Vehicle speeds displayed on GTS and speedometer display are equal.

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS

  2. CHECK COMBINATION METER SYSTEM

    1. The circuits that send vehicle speed signals to this system are inspected in the meter system (Click here).

    2. During inspection for the meter section, if there is an instruction that indicates to go back inspections for each system, proceed to the next step.

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - COMBINATION METER)

    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Disconnect the combination meter connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection

      Condition

      Specified Condition

      H62-3 (+S) - A76-44 (SPD)

      Always

      Below 1 Ω

    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    5. Reconnect the combination meter connector.

    REPLACE ECM

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - NO. 3 JUNCTION BLOCK)

    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Disconnect the No. 3 junction block connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
