OIL PUMP REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

  1. INSTALL ENGINE TO ENGINE STAND

  2. REMOVE ENGINE HANGER

  3. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY

  4. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD

  5. REMOVE DUTY VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE

  6. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE

  7. REMOVE WATER INLET HOSE

  8. DISCONNECT NO. 3 WATER BY-PASS HOSE

    1. A206148

      Disconnect the No. 3 water by-pass hose from the water inlet housing.

  9. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY

  10. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  11. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER GASKET

  12. REMOVE SPARK PLUG TUBE GASKET

  13. SET NO. 1 CYLINDER TO TDC/COMPRESSION

  14. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY

  15. REMOVE NO. 1 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY

  16. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. A150857

      Remove the 3 bolts and engine mounting bracket RH.

    2. A234904

      Remove the 4 bolts and oil filter bracket.

    3. A234906

      Remove the 2 O-rings.

      Seal Washer

      Remove the 19 bolts and seal washer.

      Protective Tape

      Remove the timing chain cover sub-assembly by prying between the timing chain cover sub-assembly and cylinder head, camshaft housing sub-assembly, cylinder block and stiffening crankcase with a screwdriver as shown in the illustration.

      Tip:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

      Note:

      Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder head sub-assembly, camshaft housing sub-assembly, cylinder block, stiffening crankcase and timing chain cover sub-assembly.

      Remove the 3 O-rings.

      Remove the 3 bolts and water pump assembly.

      Remove the gasket.

  17. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER OIL SEAL

      Wooden Block

      Place the timing chain cover sub-assembly on wooden blocks.

    2. Using a screwdriver, tap out the timing chain cover oil seal.

      Tip:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

      Note:

      Do not damage the surface of the timing chain cover oil seal press fit hole.

  18. REMOVE CHAIN TENSIONER SLIPPER

  19. REMOVE NO. 1 CHAIN VIBRATION DAMPER

  20. REMOVE CHAIN SUB-ASSEMBLY

  21. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT TIMING SPROCKET

      Remove the crankshaft timing sprocket.

  22. REMOVE NO. 2 CHAIN SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley and crankshaft pulley bolt.

    2. Using SST, hold the crankshaft pulley. Then remove the drive shaft gear nut.

      for 86 mm (3.39 in.) Bolt Pitch Type:

      for 64 mm (2.52 in.) Bolt Pitch Type:

      09213-54015

      09330-00021

      Tip:

      For the 64 mm (2.52 in.) bolt pitch type, the part number of the installation bolt for SST (crankshaft pulley holding tool) is 91551-00850 (quantity: 2).

    3. Remove SST, the crankshaft pulley bolt and crankshaft pulley.

      Remove the bolt, chain tensioner plate and spring.

      Oil Pump Drive Shaft Gear

      Remove the oil pump drive gear, oil pump drive shaft gear and No. 2 chain sub-assembly.

  23. REMOVE OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG

  24. REMOVE NO. 2 OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. A150894

      Remove the 10 bolts and 2 nuts.

    2. A120816

      Insert the blade of an oil pan seal cutter between the stiffening crankcase and No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly. Cut through the sealer and remove the No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly.

      Note:
      • Be careful not to damage the surface of the No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly which contacts the stiffening crankcase.

      • Be careful not to damage the stiffening crankcase flange.

  25. REMOVE OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY

    1. A173460

      Remove the 3 bolts and oil pump assembly.
