CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
CAUTION:
To avoid the danger of being burned, do not remove the reservoir cap (for Intercooler) while the coolant (for Intercooler) is still hot. Thermal expansion will cause hot coolant and steam to blow out from the intercooler reservoir assembly.
PROCEDURE
INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK (for Intercooler)
Remove the radiator cover plate.
Remove the upper radiator support seal.
Remove the lower radiator air deflector.
Remove the reservoir tank cap (for Intercooler).
Fill the intercooler reservoir assembly with coolant, and then attach a radiator cap tester.
Warm up the engine.
Using the radiator cap tester, increase the pressure inside the intercooler cooling radiator assembly to 123 kPa (1.3 kgf/cm2, 18 psi), and then check that the pressure does not drop.
If the pressure drops, check the hoses, intercooler cooling radiator assembly, intercooler assembly, turbocharger assembly and electric water pump assembly for leakage.
If there are no signs of external coolant leaks, check the intercooler assembly and turbocharger assembly.
Detach a radiator cap tester.
Install the reservoir tank cap (for Intercooler).
Install the lower radiator air deflector.
Install the upper radiator support seal.
Install the radiator cover plate.
INSPECT COOLANT LEVEL (for Intercooler)
| *a | FULL Line |
| *b | LOW Line |
Check that the coolant level is between the LOW and FULL lines when the engine is cold.
If the level is low, check for leakage and add TOYOTA Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC) or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, and non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology up to the FULL line.
Note
Do not substitute plain water for coolant.
INSPECT COOLANT QUALITY (for Intercooler)
Detach the claw and service hole cover from the lower radiator air deflector.
Remove the reservoir tank cap (for Intercooler).
Check for any excessive deposits of rust or scale around the reservoir cap (for Intercooler) and check that the coolant is free of oil.
If the coolant is excessively dirty, replace the coolant.
Install the reservoir tank cap (for Intercooler).
Attach the claw and service hole cover to the lower radiator air deflector.
