Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. SEPARATE REAR NO. 2 DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

    1. Using needle-nose pliers, separate the rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

  2. SEPARATE REAR DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH


    1. A001WIL

      Using pliers, separate the rear drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH.

  3. SEPARATE REAR DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT BOOT LH


    1. Separate the rear drive shaft inboard joint boot LH from the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH.

  4. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Remove the old grease from the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH.

      *a Matchmark

      Put matchmarks on the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH and rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

      Note

      Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.

    3. Remove the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

      Remove the rear axle inboard joint grommet from the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH.

    5. A001VX5

      Using a snap ring expander, remove the rear drive shaft snap ring LH from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

    6. A001SSVC05
      *a Matchmark

      Put matchmarks on the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH and tripod joint.

      Note

      Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.

    7. Using a brass bar and a hammer, tap out the tripod joint from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

      Note


      • Do not tap the rollers.

      • Do not drop the tripod joint.

    8. Remove the rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH, rear drive shaft inboard joint boot LH and rear drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH.

  5. SEPARATE REAR NO. 2 DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

    1. Using pliers, separate the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH.

  6. SEPARATE REAR DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH


    1. Perform the same procedure as for the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH.

  7. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT


    1. Remove the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot LH from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

    2. Remove any old grease from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

  8. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER LH

    Tech Tips

    Only perform the following procedure if the rear drive shaft dust cover LH is deformed.


    1. Using SST and a press, remove the rear drive shaft dust cover LH.

      Note


      • Be careful not to drop the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH.

      • Do not overtighten SST.
