SFI SYSTEM(w/o Canister Pump Module), Diagnostic DTC:P16B479

DTC Code DTC Name
P16B479 Multi Flow Control Valve Stopper Mechanical Linkage Failure

DESCRIPTION

The water control valve shaft is fixed to the center of the ball valve, and its role is to transmit the rotational drive torque transmitted from the internal DC motor via the gear to the ball valve.

DTC No. Detection Item DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area MIL Memory Note
P16B479 Multi Flow Control Valve Stopper Mechanical Linkage Failure

Both of the following conditions are met for 0.5 seconds (2 trip detection logic):

  • Ball valve of water control valve operates beyond the upper limit stopper during forced operation immediately after engine switch off

  • Ball valve of water control valve operates beyond the lower limit stopper during forced operation immediately after engine switch off

Water control valve Comes on DTC stored SAE: P16B4

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

When the operating angle of the ball valve of the water control valve goes beyond the stopper, breakage or disconnection of the water control valve shaft or misalignment of the ball valve position sensor is judged, and the ECM illuminates the MIL and stores a DTC.

MONITOR STRATEGY

Required Sensors/Components (Main) Water control valve
Frequency of Operation Once per driving cycle

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  3. Turn the GTS on.

  4. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).

  5. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  6. Start the engine.

  7. Idle the engine for 120 seconds or more.

  8. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  9. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  10. Turn the GTS on.

  11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

  12. Read the pending DTCs.

    Tech Tips

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

  13. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

  14. Input the DTC: P16B479.

  15. Check the DTC judgment result.

    GTS Display Description
    NORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System normal

    ABNORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System abnormal

    INCOMPLETE
    • DTC judgment not completed

    • Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions

    Tech Tips

    • If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tech Tips

Read Freeze Frame Data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as Freeze Frame Data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, Freeze Frame Data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P16B479)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

    5. Read the DTCs.
