When a malfunction cannot be confirmed by the DTC check, troubleshooting should be performed on all circuits that are possible causes of the problem. However, in most cases, performing the basic engine check shown below can help you find the problem quickly and efficiently. Always perform this check first when troubleshooting the engine.


  1. CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE

    Note

    Perform the battery voltage check with the engine stopped and ignition switch OFF.

    Voltage Proceed to
    11 V or more OK
    Below 11 V NG

    CHARGE OR REPLACE BATTERY
    OK

  2. CHECK IF ENGINE WILL CRANK


    NG

    PROCEED TO PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
    OK

  3. CHECK AIR FILTER


    1. Visually check that the air filter is not excessively contaminated with dirt or oil.


      NG

      CLEAN OR REPLACE AIR FILTER
      OK

  4. CHECK FUEL QUALITY


    1. Check that only diesel fuel is used.

    2. Check that the fuel does not contain any impurities.


      NG

      REPLACE FUEL
      OK

  5. CHECK FOR AIR MIXTURE IN FUEL


    NG

    BLEED AIR FROM FUEL
    OK

  6. CHECK FUEL PIPES AND HOSES


    1. Check that the fuel pipes and fuel hoses are not blocked, damaged, disconnected or bent.

      REPAIR OR REPLACE FUEL PIPES AND HOSES

  7. CHECK FUEL FILTER FOR BLOCKAGE

    REPLACE FUEL FILTER

  8. CHECK ENGINE OIL


    NG

    ADD OR REPLACE ENGINE OIL
    OK

  9. CHECK ENGINE COOLANT

    ADD OR REPLACE ENGINE COOLANT

  10. CHECK IDLING SPEED AND MAXIMUM SPEED

    REPLACE SUCTION CONTROL VALVE

  11. CHECK DIAGNOSTIC CIRCUIT
