SPEED LIMITER SYSTEM CONTROL CRUISE CONTROL
FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS
Component
Function
Speed Limiter Switch (Cruise Control Switch)
ON-OFF Button
Turns the speed limiter control system on and off.
CANCEL Switch
Cancels speed limit control.
RES/+ Switch
Increases the limit speed or resumes a preset limit speed.
SET/- Switch
Decreases the limit speed or sets the current speed as the limit speed.
ECM
Controls the speed limiter system in accordance with signals from the switches and sensors.
If the ECM detects a malfunction in the speed limiter system, it will store Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
Combination Meter Assembly
Speed Limiter Indicator Light
Illuminates in green when the speed limiter system is turned on using the ON-OFF button on the speed limiter switch (cruise control switch.)
Illuminates in yellow if a malfunction is detected in the speed limiter system.
Multi-information Display
Displays the limit speed when a limit speed is set.
Multi Buzzer
Sounds when the vehicle speed exceeds the set limit speed.
Throttle Body with Motor Assembly
Throttle Control Motor
Adjusts the throttle valve opening angle in accordance with signals from the ECM.
Throttle Position Sensor
Detects the throttle valve opening angle and sends it to the ECM.
Brake Actuator Assembly
Skid Control ECU
Sends the vehicle speed signal to the ECM.
Speed Sensors
Detects the wheel speed of each of the 4 wheels.
Accelerator Pedal Sensor Assembly
Detects when the accelerator pedal is depressed, whether the depression of the accelerator pedal has exceeded the threshold to enter kick down mode and sends signals to the ECM.
Clutch Upper Switch (Clutch Start Switch Assembly)
Detects when the clutch pedal is depressed and sends a signal to the ECM.
FUNCTION

Set Control
When the speed limiter switch (cruise control switch) is pressed in the SET/"-" direction, the system memorizes the current vehicle speed as a limit speed, and the limit speed is displayed on the combination meter assembly. If the vehicle speed is lower than 30 km/h (20 mph) when the switch is operated, the desired maximum speed will be set at 30 km/h (20 mph).
Constant Speed Control
When the speed limiter system is on, the ECM compares the actual vehicle speed with the limit speed. If the actual vehicle speed is higher than the limit speed, the ECM will control the throttle control motor, reducing the actual vehicle speed to the limit speed.
Coast Control
If the driver continues to press the speed limiter switch (cruise control switch) in the ''-'' direction, direction, the system will reduce the limit speed in 5 km/h or 5 mph increments. The instant the driver releases the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control switch), that speed will be set as the limit speed.
Tap-down Control
If the driver presses the speed limiter switch (cruise control switch) momentarily (for approximately 0.5 seconds) in the ''-'' direction, the system will reduce the limit speed by 1 km/h or 1 mph with each press of the switch.
Accelerator Control
If the driver continues to press the speed limiter switch (cruise control switch) in the ''+'' direction, the system will increase the limit speed in 5 km/h or 5 mph increments. The instant the driver releases the speed limiter switch (cruise control switch), that speed will be set as the limit speed.
Tap-up Control
If the driver presses the speed limiter switch (cruise control switch) momentarily (for approximately 0.5 seconds) in the ''+'' direction, the system will increase the limit speed by 1 km/h or 1 mph with each press of the switch.
Override Control
While the vehicle is being driven with the speed limiter system on, if the driver fully depresses the accelerator pedal, the ECM will detect that the accelerator pedal position sensor has exceeded the threshold to enter kick down mode. In this case, the ECM will recognize the drivers intent to accelerate quickly and will allow the vehicle to accelerate higher than the limit speed. After the acceleration, when the vehicle speed falls below the limit speed, this function will resume limit speed control.
Cancel Control
While the vehicle is being driven with the speed limiter system on, if either of the following signals is sent to the ECM, the system will cancel operation of the speed limiter system:
CANCEL switch on signal (the driver has pressed the speed limiter switch (cruise control switch) in the CANCEL direction)
Speed limiter switch (cruise control switch) off signal
Resume Control
After canceling speed limiter control using the speed limiter switch (cruise control switch), if the driver pushes the speed limiter switch (cruise control switch), in the ''+'' direction, the system will resume speed limit control at the limit speed that was set at the time of cancelation.
DIAGNOSIS
If a malfunction occurs in the speed limiter system during speed limit control operation, the ECM automatically cancels control and illuminates the speed limiter indicator light in yellow. At this time, the ECM stores the malfunction in the form of a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).
The DTC can be read by connecting the Global TechStream (GTS) to the DLC3. For details, refer to the Repair Manual.
