BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM

  1. SYSTEM CONTROL

    1. When a vehicle is towing a trailer, trailer sway may occur because of side wind, an undulating road surface or the driver's steering input. Trailer sway control helps to reduce trailer sway by controlling the hybrid output and braking of each wheel.

      Note

      • Trailer sway control is a part of the VSC function. Therefore, if the VSC OFF mode is selected or VSC is not functioning normally, trailer sway control will not operate.

      • Trailer sway control will be unable to stabilize the vehicle if a trailer is being towed which cannot be physically controlled due to the influence of the vehicle, road surface, driving conditions, etc.

    2. The skid control ECU assembly detects the occurrence of trailer sway based on signals from the yaw rate sensor, the acceleration sensor and the steering angle sensor.

    3. Trailer sway can be suppressed by decelerating the vehicle. When the skid control ECU assembly detects trailer sway, it controls the brakes of each wheel and simultaneously requests the hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly to control the hybrid output and decelerate the vehicle.

    4. As using brake control reduces the yaw moment caused by trailer sway, trailer sway can be suppressed more quickly than by simply decelerating the vehicle.

    5. The slip indicator light on the combination meter assembly blinks when trailer sway control is in operation. Also, the stop light illuminates to inform vehicles behind that the vehicle is decelerating.
