DESCRIPTION

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit consists of the airbag sensor assembly and passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator (telltale light assembly).

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator indicates the operation condition of the instrument panel passenger airbag assembly.

DTC B1660/43 is stored when a malfunction is detected in the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit.

Note:
  • After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

  • Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following procedure.

Tip:

Terminals E36-24 (PAON) and E36-23 (P-AB) of the instrument panel wire in this circuit have an activation prevention mechanism.

This mechanism can be used to check for an open circuit in the wire harness. When performing other checks (check for short to ground or short to B+), this mechanism should be released.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION

    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    2. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      Tip:

      Refer to the normal condition of the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator.

  2. CHECK CONNECTORS

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag sensor assembly and telltale light assembly. Also check that the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire are properly connected.

      The connectors are properly connected.

      Tip:

      If the connectors are not properly connected, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag sensor assembly and telltale light assembly. Also disconnect the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire.

    5. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

      OK

      The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

    6. Check that the short springs of the activation prevention mechanism of the instrument panel wire are not deformed or damaged.

      OK

      The short springs are not deformed or damaged.

  3. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR

    1. Connect the connector to the telltale light assembly. Also connect the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    4. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      OK

      The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Connect the connector to the airbag sensor assembly.

    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

  11. CHECK CONNECTORS

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag sensor assembly and telltale light assembly. Also check that the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire are properly connected.

      Tip:

      If the connectors are not properly connected, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag sensor assembly and telltale light assembly. Also disconnect the connectors that link the No. 2 instrument panel wire and instrument panel wire.

    5. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.
