THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

    1. The theft deterrent system is designed to deter vehicle break-ins and theft. If an attempted break-in or theft is detected, the alarm sound and the hazard warning lights and side turn signal lights flash. The system detects an attempted break-in or theft when any of the following occurs: 1) the vehicle is forcibly entered; 2) the engine hood is forcibly opened; 3) the doors are unlocked without the use of a key; or 4) the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal and then reconnected. If the system enters the alarm sounding state, any unlocked doors automatically lock.

    2. The system has an active arming mode (refer to Active Arming Mode).

    3. Active arming mode has 4 states: disarmed state, arming preparation state, armed state and alarm sounding state.

      1. Disarmed state:

        • The alarm function is not operating.

        • The theft deterrent system is not operating.

      2. Arming preparation state:

The theft deterrent system is not operating.

      3. Armed state:

The theft deterrent system is operating.

      4. Alarm sounding state:

The alarm function is operating (30 +/-5 seconds).

        Alarm Method and Time
        Alarm Method Alarm Time
Vehicle horns Security horn assembly Hazard warning lights and side turn signal lights
Sounding (cycle of 0.4 seconds) Sounding (cycle of 0.4 seconds) Blinking (cycle of flasher relay) 30 +/-5 seconds

        Tech Tips

If, during the alarm sounding state, one of the doors is unlocked without using a proper key, a forced door lock signal is output (refer to Forced Door Lock Control).

  2. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENT

    Function Outline
Security indicator light assembly Informs the driver of the theft deterrent system status.

Rear door courtesy light switch assembly LH/RH

Back door lock assembly (back door courtesy light switch)

    • Located on each door.

    • Turns on when the door is open and off when the door is closed. Outputs the door status (open or closed) to the theft warning ECU assembly.

    Hood lock assembly
    • Built-in a security courtesy switch..

    • Turns on when the engine hood is open and off when the engine hood is closed. Outputs the engine hood open status (open or closed) to theft warning ECU assembly.

  3. ACTIVE ARMING MODE

    Tech Tips

Active arming mode starts alarm control immediately after the doors are locked.

    3. Armed state (alarm stops sounding)

    • *1: for Arming Preparation State 30 Seconds

    • *2: for Arming Preparation State 10 Seconds

    • *3: This function can be disable in accordance with user preference. For details, refer to Customize Parameters.

  4. FORCED DOOR LOCK CONTROL

    1. Forced door lock control also helps to prevent the vehicle from being tampered with. When a door is unlocked and the alarm starts, the door is forced to lock by a forced door lock signal.

      1. Conditions that force the doors to lock:

        • 0.4 seconds have elapsed after the previous output of a forced door lock signal.

        • The theft deterrent system is in the alarm sounding state.

        • A door is unlocked.

  5. SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT OUTPUT

    1. The security indicator light assembly turns on and off based on output signals from the theft warning ECU assembly. However, in some cases, the actual status of the security indicator light is different from the output signals from the theft warning ECU assembly.

      Tech Tips

      *: w/ Engine Immobiliser System

When the engine immobiliser system is set, the security indicator light assembly blinks during the disarmed state and armed state due to the output signals from the engine immobiliser system.

  6. ALARM MEMORY FUNCTION

    1. The alarm memory function informs the user if the theft deterrent system entered the alarm sounding state while the user was away.

      1. After the theft deterrent system is set, if the system enters the alarm sounding state and the alarm sounding state ends before the theft deterrent system is canceled by the user, the alarm memory function will operate. When the theft deterrent system is canceled by the user, the alarm memory function will flash the hazard warning lights 3 times at 0.35 seconds intervals.

  7. STARTER CUT FUNCTION (w/o Engine Immobiliser System)

    1. When the alarm is sounding, voltage to the starter is cut.
