SHIFT LEVER INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY

   1. 

      *a	Component with harness connected (Transmission Floor Shift Assembly)

      Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
      5 (IG) - Body - ground	Power switch on (IG)	11 to 14 V
      	Power switch off	Below 1 V
      4 (STP) - Body ground	Brake pedal depressed	11 to 14 V
      	Brake pedal released	Below 1 V

      Tip:

      Do not disconnect the transmission floor shift assembly connector.

      If the result is not as specified, replace the transmission floor shift assembly.

   2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
      1 (E) - Body ground	Always	Below 1 Ω

      Tip:

      Do not disconnect the transmission floor shift assembly connector.

      If the result is not as specified, replace the transmission floor shift assembly.

2. INSPECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH

   1. Disconnect the connector from the transmission floor shift assembly.

   2. 

      *a	Component without harness connected (Transmission control switch)

      for LHD:

      Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
      4 (IG) - 5 (S)	Shift lever in S, "+" or "-"	Below 1 Ω
      3 (SFTU) - 2 (E)	Shift lever held in "+" (Up-shift)	Below 1 Ω
      1 (SFTD) - 2 (E)	Shift lever held in "-" (Down-shift)	Below 1 Ω
      4 (IG) - 5 (S)	Shift lever not in S, "+" or "-"	10 kΩ or higher
      3 (SFTU) - 2 (E)	Shift lever in S	10 kΩ or higher
      1 (SFTD) - 2 (E)	Shift lever in S	10 kΩ or higher

      If the result is not as specified, replace the transmission floor shift assembly.

   3. 

      *a	Component without harness connected (Transmission control switch)

      for RHD:

      Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
      4 (IG) - 5 (S)	Shift lever in S, "+" or "-"	Below 1 Ω
      1 (SFTU) - 2 (E)	Shift lever held in "+" (Up-shift)	Below 1 Ω
      3 (SFTD) - 2 (E)	Shift lever held in "-" (Down-shift)	Below 1 Ω
      4 (IG) - 5 (S)	Shift lever not in S, "+" or "-"	10 kΩ or higher
      1 (SFTU) - 2 (E)	Shift lever in S	10 kΩ or higher
      3 (SFTD) - 2 (E)	Shift lever in S	10 kΩ or higher

      If the result is not as specified, replace the transmission floor shift assembly.
