DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 4WD)
DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
CAUTION:
Do not remove the radiator reservoir cap while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.
Loosen the radiator drain cock plug.
Tech Tips
Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.
Drain the coolant by removing the reservoir cap and, using a wrench, remove the vent plug.
Loosen the cylinder block drain cock plug.
REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY
w/o EGR Cooler:
Disconnect the ventilation hose.
w/ Mass Air Flow Meter:
Disconnect the mass air flow meter sensor connector.
w/ Intake Air Temperature Sensor:
Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor connector.
Loosen the hose clamp.
Remove the 2 bolts and air cleaner.
REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
Remove the 3 bolts, 2 nut and engine cover.
REMOVE INTERCOOLER ASSEMBLY
Detach the 2 clamps.
Disconnect the vacuum hose from the manifold absolute pressure sensor.
Disconnect the IAT sensor connector and manifold absolute diesel pressure sensor connector.
Loosen the 2 hose clamps of the No. 1 air hose.
Loosen the 2 hose clamps of the No. 2 air hose.
Remove the 4 bolts and intercooler.
REMOVE VENTILATION PIPE
for Waste Gate Type Turbocharger:
Remove the bolt and ventilation pipe.
for Variable Nozzle Vane Turbocharger:
Disconnect the No. 12 water by-pass hose and No. 13 water by-pass hose.
Remove the bolt and ventilation pipe.
REMOVE COMPRESSOR INLET ELBOW (for Waste Gate Type Turbocharger)
Loosen the clamp, and then remove the compressor inlet elbow and air cleaner hose assembly from the turbocharger sub-assembly.
Loosen the clamp, remove the air cleaner hose assembly from the compressor inlet elbow.
Remove the No. 3 air cleaner hose from the turbo charger sub-assembly.
REMOVE COMPRESSOR INLET ELBOW (for Variable Nozzle Vane Turbocharger)
Disconnect the 2 connectors and detach the wire harness clamp.
Disconnect the No. 1 turbo water hose.

Disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass hose.
Remove the No. 12 water by-pass hose and No. 13 water by-pass hose.
Remove the 2 nuts, compressor inlet elbow and gasket.

| *2 | No. 12 Water By-pass Hose |
Remove the No. 7 water by-pass hose and No. 12 water by-pass hose.
DISCONNECT RADIATOR HOSE OUTLET
Disconnect the radiator hose outlet from the water inlet.
REMOVE WATER INLET
Remove the 3 bolts and water inlet.
REMOVE THERMOSTAT
Remove the thermostat from the cylinder block.
Remove the gasket from the thermostat.
