MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The ECM outputs an operation duty signal (IWPO) to steplessly control the speed of the electric water pump assembly. The ECM outputs an operation duty signal (IWPO) to the electric water pump assembly and monitors the actual duty signal (IWPO) being output. When the operation duty signal (IWPO) is being output to the electric water pump assembly and the actual operation duty signal (IWPO) is a certain value or less, the ECM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. B006EE7E02
  2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  4. Turn the GTS on.

  5. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).

  6. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  7. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  8. Turn the GTS on.

  9. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature reaches 75°C (167°F) or higher [A].

  10. Accelerate to 50 km/h (31 mph) or more with the accelerator pedal fully depressed [B].

    Note

When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.

  11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes [C].

  12. Read the pending DTCs.

    Tech Tips

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

  13. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

  14. Input the DTC: P023A14.

  15. Check the DTC judgment result.

    GTS Display Description
    NORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System normal

    ABNORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System abnormal

    INCOMPLETE
    • DTC judgment not completed

    • Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions

    Tech Tips

    • If the judgment result is NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result is ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

    • If the judgment result is INCOMPLETE, perform steps [B] through [C] again.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following procedure.

Tech Tips

Read Freeze Frame Data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as Freeze Frame Data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, Freeze Frame Data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT ECM (INTERNAL CIRCUIT)

    1. Disconnect the electric water pump assembly connector.

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    4. Turn the GTS on.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Intercooler Water Pump.

Powertrain > Engine > Active Test
      Tester Display
      Control the Intercooler Water Pump
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
B2-3 (SWP) - Body ground Active Test OFF → ON Active Test OFF: Resistance stabilized → ON: Resistance changes*

      Tech Tips

*: The transistor inside the ECM performs duty control according to the Active Test being operated. The resistance of the SWP terminal changes while the Active Test is on due to duty control. If the resistance is stable while the Active Test is off and changes while the Active Test is on, the transistor is working correctly. If the transistor does not operate when the Active Test is on, there may be a malfunction in the ECM.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ELECTRIC WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY - ECM)

    1. Disconnect the electric water pump assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B2-3 (SWP) - A95-19 (IWPO) Always Below 1 Ω
