MASS AIR FLOW METER ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

Note


  • Perform the mass air flow meter sub-assembly inspection according to the following procedure.

  • Only replace the mass air flow meter sub-assembly when the mass air flow meter sub-assembly value in the Data List (with the engine stopped) is not within the normal operating range or there is foreign matter on the mass air flow meter sub-assembly platinum hot wire (heater).

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT MASS AIR FLOW METER SUB-ASSEMBLY

    Perform "Inspection After Repairs" after replacing the mass air flow meter sub-assembly.

    1. Read the value of the Data List item "Mass Air Flow Sensor" using the GTS.

      Note


      • Perform the inspection with the vehicle indoors and on a level surface.

      • Perform the inspection of the mass air flow meter sub-assembly while it is installed to the air cleaner cap sub-assembly (installed to the vehicle).

      • During this inspection, do not use an exhaust air duct on the exhaust pipe.

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    4. Turn the GTS on.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Mass Air Flow Sensor.


      Powertrain > Engine > Data List
      Tester Display
      Mass Air Flow Sensor
    6. Wait for 30 seconds, and then read the Data List according to the display on the GTS.

      Standard
      Item Condition Specified Condition
      Mass Air Flow Sensor
      • Engine not running

      • 30 seconds after ignition switch turned to ON

      0.57 gm/sec or less

      If the result is not as specified, replace the mass air flow meter sub-assembly.

      If the result is within the specified range, inspect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly.

  2. PERFORM INITIALIZATION


    1. Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the mass air flow meter sub-assembly.
