CANVAS TOP SYSTEM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
CANVAS TOP SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The canvas top system controls the canvas top operation using the sliding roof control ECU assembly. Operating the slide roof motor switch results in electrical power being transmitted to the sliding roof control ECU assembly. The slide roof motor assembly is operated by signals sent from the sliding roof control ECU assembly.
FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENT
The canvas top system consists of the following components:
Component
Outline
Sliding roof control ECU assembly
Controls the rotational direction of the slide roof motor assembly by turning switch signals received from the slide roof motor switch into operation signals.
Slide roof motor switch
Sends switch signals to the sliding roof control ECU assembly.
Slide roof motor assembly
Receives operation signals from the sliding roof control ECU assembly and moves the canvas top.
SYSTEM FUNCTION
The canvas top system has the following functions:
Function
Outline
Manual open and close function
Function that causes the canvas top to open (or close) when the open switch (or close switch) is pressed for a 0.3 seconds or less. The canvas top stops as soon as the switch is released.
Auto open function
Function that enables the canvas top to be fully opened when the open switch is pressed for 0.3 seconds or more.
Auto close function
Function that enables the canvas top to be partially closed when the close switch is pressed for 0.3 seconds or more.
Fail-safe
Function which reverses the slide roof motor assembly to protect the mechanism if a foreign object is detected during a canvas top operation.
This function is used to prevent the slide roof motor assembly from overheating due to excessive continuous operation. If the conditions for thermal protection are met, the canvas top operation is disabled for 15 seconds. After that, the canvas top can be operated as much as twice the length of itself. If the canvas top is fully closed, the sliding roof control ECU assembly will ignore further operation requests to prevent additional overheating of the slide roof motor assembly. Once the thermal protection is activated, a cooling period is required before the system can resume normal operation.
