SFI SYSTEM(for Rear Air Fuel Ratio Sensor), Diagnostic DTC:P011C62

DTC Code DTC Name
P011C62 Charge Air Cooler Temperature/Intake Air Temperature Bank 1 Signal Compare Failure

DESCRIPTION

Tech Tips

This DTC is applicable to w/ Canister Pump Module only.

The engine has two temperature sensors, an intake air temperature sensor (built into No. 1 turbo pressure sensor) and an intake air temperature sensor (built into mass air flow meter sub-assembly), to detect temperature while the engine is operating. A thermistor, whose resistance value varies according to the temperature, is built into each sensor. When the temperature becomes low, the resistance of the thermistor increases. When the temperature becomes high, the resistance drops. These variations in resistance are transmitted to the ECM as voltage changes.

All of the following conditions are met (2 trip detection logic):

  1. The battery voltage is 8 V or higher.

  2. 7 hours or more have elapsed since the engine stopped on the previous trip.

  3. 58 seconds or more after a cold engine start.

  4. Either of the following conditions is met:

    1. The minimum intake air temperature (for mass air flow meter sub-assembly) after the engine starts is -10°C (14°F) or higher.

    2. The intake air temperature (for No. 1 turbo pressure sensor) before the engine starts is -10°C (14°F) or higher.

  5. The difference between the readings of the intake air temperature (for No. 1 turbo pressure sensor) and (for mass air flow meter sub-assembly) is higher than 21°C (70°F).

  • Intake air temperature sensor (built into mass air flow meter sub-assembly)

  • Intake air temperature sensor (built into No. 1 turbo pressure sensor)

  • ECM

Tech Tips

  • Waiting is required to prevent the temperature of the engine from affecting the readings. If the engine has been operated recently, it is not possible to accurately compare the readings.

  • For diagnosis, in order to duplicate the detection conditions of the DTC, it is necessary to park the vehicle for 7 hours. Parking the vehicle for 7 hours ensures that the actual temperature of the intake air temperature (for No. 1 turbo pressure sensor) and intake air temperature (for mass air flow meter sub-assembly) are very similar. When the vehicle has been parked for less than 7 hours, differences in the readings may exist, but this does not necessarily indicate a fault.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The ECM monitors the difference between the intake air temperature (for No. 1 turbo pressure sensor) and the intake air temperature (for mass air flow meter sub-assembly) when the engine is started cold to accurately detect the engine temperature conditions. The monitor runs when the engine is started after 7 hours or more have elapsed since the engine was stopped (engine switch turned off) on the previous trip. If the difference between the intake air temperature (for No. 1 turbo pressure sensor) and the intake air temperature (for mass air flow meter sub-assembly) on a cold start exceeds 21°C (70°F), the ECM interprets this as a malfunction in the No. 1 turbo pressure sensor circuit and intake air temperature sensor circuit, and stores the DTC.

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  3. Turn the GTS on.

  4. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure) [A].

  5. Turn the engine switch off.

  6. With the engine stopped, leave the vehicle as is for 7.5 hours or more [B].

  7. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  8. Turn the GTS on.

  9. Start the engine and wait 58 seconds or more [C].

  10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes [D].

  11. Read the pending DTCs.

    Tech Tips

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

  12. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

  13. Input the DTC: P011C62.

  14. Check the DTC judgment result.

    GTS Display Description
    NORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System normal

    ABNORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System abnormal

    INCOMPLETE
    • DTC judgment not completed

    • Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions

    Tech Tips

    • If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

    • If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE, perform steps [B] through [D] again.

Tech Tips

Read Freeze Frame Data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as Freeze Frame Data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, Freeze Frame Data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P011C62)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

    5. Read the DTCs.

Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P011C62 is output A
DTC P011C62 and other DTCs are output B

      Tech Tips

If any DTCs other than P011C62 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  2. READ VALUE USING GTS (INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE)

    1. Leave the vehicle for 7 hours or more.

      Tech Tips

It is necessary to leave the vehicle for 7 hours or more to create conditions similar to the DTC detection conditions.

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    4. Turn the GTS on.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Intake Air Temperature.

Powertrain > Engine > Data List
      Tester Display
      Intake Air Temperature
    6. Read the value displayed on the GTS.

      Standard
Difference between the intake air temperature (for mass air flow meter sub-assembly) and the actual outside air temperature is within 10°C (18°F).

      Tech Tips

      • Temperature readings on the outside temperature gauge of the vehicle (if equipped) are not suitable for comparing to the intake air temperature reading. The outside temperature gauge has a significant delay built in to prevent swings in the temperature display. Use an accurate thermometer to determine the outside air temperature.

      • Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the mass air flow meter sub-assembly.
